Gears of War 3 collector's editions detailed

Gears of War collectors will have their hands full (and wallets empty) this summer. Epic Games has unveiled its Limited and Epic edition packages for Gears of War 3, both of which are set to drop with the standard game-only release on September 20th.

The Limited Edition will retail for $79.99 USD and include an Octus Award Display Box, complete with an Octus Service Medal; a Fabric COG Flag; Adam Fenix's (Marcus's dad) “Last Will and Testament"; his blueprints for the original Hammer of Dawn; and a smattering of other personal family items. Each Octus Service Medal will also ship with a unique Xbox LIVE code that can be used to unlock the Adam Fenix multiplayer character.

The Epic Edition includes everything outlined in the Limited Edition, with the addition of a Marcus Fenix statue and a 96-page book entitled The Art and Design of Gears of War. It will be available for nearly double the cost at US$149.99.

Epic also released a new video detailing these editions in a retrospective behind-the-scenes video hosted by art director, Chris Perna:

Getting the Epic version. It's pretty much tailor made for extreme fans of GoW and I love that. No stupid gun skins or anything electronic (except for Adam Fenix) and that is too cool. For far too long there has only been stupid DLC content for buying the better editions of games, and Epic is fixing that. Can't wait to have my hands on the HAND PAINTED statue of Marcus.

Originally reserved the $80 version to get the artbook. Looks like I'll be dropping to the standard version.

The most impressive thing is how much the guy who works in art direction and paints pretty statues actually looks like he's straight out of the game. Even the artist at Epic look like they'll curb stomp you.

I'd always planned on trying to get my hands on a special edition version of Gears 3, and, even though I won't be able to afford the £79 version, I'm gonna go out of my way to try and afford the £59 version. AWESOME.

Not interested in the game, but this is a proper limited edition. Fanservice. Tangible, real-world things. No overpriced electronic gimmicks [ex: night-vision goggles]. Very little in the way of "exclusive DLC". 'Making of' material. Bravo, Epic. Bravo.

What the fuck? We get to play as Adam Fenix in multiplayer, but not as Maria. Thats fucking bullshit. oh... and i'm getting the lmtd edition.

Fuck the haters. I'm getting it.
  • Balaska - May 17, 2011 6:12 a.m.

    Normal version, kkthnxbai.

You know this will be exactly like Halo Reach. I went to Gamestop to buy the Legendary Edition of Halo Reach for $60, just have to wait a month or two.

I only want that for the statue...I know I'm an idiot but I love any game memorabilia. I'm going to pass for a bit and wait for a price drop, hopefully it'll be one of those that don't go up in value after a certain period of time. If the product has effort and time put into it I'll bite but cheap shit like that Halo helmet, yea no thanks.

I'm screwed! Wife already seen this. Looks like I'll be picking up the Epic edition for her and the plain old standard version for me. Not sure so many are concerned about others purchasing habits. What business is it of there's? Pretty pathetic if such things upset you. It's not like the standard version is removed or people would be gaining an advantage online by spending more money. There is something there for everyone. Mind your business...it will save you from unneeded frustration.

Why so many haters? Its all in a persons perspective. will i buy the epic edition? yes. Would I buy the basic mass effect 3 game? No, hated the series, didnt stand up to GOW in any way, shape, or form. But thats my opinion. If you Dont want a wicked handpainted statue dont buy it but dont flip batshit and say its bullshit
  • AGENTJORRRG - May 16, 2011 10:42 p.m.

    It lacks balls of steel.
  • WikiParazFTW - May 16, 2011 10:28 p.m.

I'm going to pre-order the limited edition, but seriously why does everyone bitch and complain about the pricing of the epic edition, did you not just see that, the staues are HAND-PAINTED, maybe it's labour costs or something like that. I'm just guessing about this, but if I'm wrong, don't be a dick about it
  • HitmanSB07 - May 16, 2011 10:14 p.m.

The limited is okay but the price jump between the two editions is ridiculous. I'm not gonna pay double for a shitty statue...Unless it's Mass Effect 3 of course.
  • JayQ - May 16, 2011 10:08 p.m.

That's prolly the dumbest limited edition i've seen, not worth $150 or even $80
  • Fro4show - May 16, 2011 10:03 p.m.

HATERS GUNNA HATE! I'm sold on the epic edition. Gears is my favorite shooter.
  • Bloodstorm - May 16, 2011 9:46 p.m.

I've got the middle edition preordered. I wouldn't mind the most expensive version but I've already got the Chiefs helmet and the Reach monument and have no space for another statue. At least all the other stuff that I'm really interested in comes in the version I'm buying.
  • flare149 - May 16, 2011 9:26 p.m.

WEAK Why would they include the artbook in only the Epic edition? That's all I want but paying even $80 for that is a stretch. LAME
  • chrisat928 - May 16, 2011 9:06 p.m.

Dear stupid consumers: STOP BUYING THIS FUCKING BULLSHIT!
