For the glory of Panau! Just Cause movie moves forward

Let the wild casting speculation begin! This week, the movie rag Variety revealed that film rights for the Just Cause franchise have been optioned to L+E Pictures, with producer Adrian Askarieh set to develop the script with Hollywood scribe Michael Ross.

Based on Avalanche's popular sandbox adventure series, the upcoming movie will likely crib its materials from last year's Just Cause 2, which saw Rico Rodriguez (aka the Scorpion) single-handedly liberate the Island of Panau with his mad black ops skillz, trusty grappling hook and witty one-liners.

L+E Pictures, headed by Eric Eisner (son of Michael Eisner, no less), is reported to be shopping the film to independent financiers before hitting up the major studios.

For the film nerds keeping track: the producer of Hitman is working with the guy who penned Turistas to make an independently financed video game movie adaptation for the studio that brought us Hamlet 2. All they need to do now is cast Mario Lopez as Rico and we might have the next Avatar on our hands.

I don't get it. How does games like Hitman, and Just Cause get movie deals? You know what games would be AWESOME movies? Halo, Mass Effect, God of War, Devil May Cry. Not Hitman and Just Cause. Hitman was alright at best and Just Cause 2, even though it was one the best open world games ever, I just don't see how you can turn that into a movie. I just don't. But yeah, I'm still waiting on the Mass Effect and Halo movies. Microsoft has proven that they can make awesome live-action clips based around Halo. The Mass Effect movie would be epic and it would have to be massive, I'm talking LOTR: Return of the King massive!

this has a good enough pretence for a film as long as they stay well away from both the random ninjas and the abysmal voice acting in the game! However as game related movies generally suck i doubt this will fare any better...

Agree with the comment above. Perhaps the worst writing and dubbing in game, almost to the point of being offensive. I really don't see how this can be remotely tolerable, when actually good franchise like PoP barely made it. This is so gonna falsely portrayed South East Asian people.

I don't even know what to say. Of all the video games to be made into a film, this is the last one I would ever think of. At this point I thought Viva Pinata would have been a trilogy of films made my Dreamsworks.

Has the possibility to be epic. If it's not epic, the only thing left is horse shit. That usually seems to be what happens with video game movies. Btw, I disagree with everyone saying that Hitman sucked. I thought it was a good movie, but it was just kind of slow paced for my taste.

I hope the acting in the movie is as hilarious as the voice acting in the game!

BTW, these advertisements in the comments are getting ridiculous. Common people, it takes more than one person to report them to get rid of them!

So the movie is going to be about a guy who hijacks random shit and then blows the shit out of anything that'll explode or fall apart. With the exception of hijacking, it sounds just like Transformers! JK, this has to be the top contender for the "worst videogame to turn into a movie" award. A lot of videogame movies seem to be getting announced lately, but this one sounds like the most awful. How does not having a story and just blowing shit up for the fun of it translate into a movie? How can you base a movie off of this? A guy runs around on an island killing things is where the script begins and ends. It works for a game, but not a movie.
