First trailer for Alex Cross: watch now

Alex Cross , the latest big screen instalment for author James Patterson's well-loved homicide detective, has released a first trailer online, alongside a shiny new poster for the upcoming crime thriller.

Directed by The Fast And The Furious 's Rob Cohen, the film stars Tyler Perry as the titular copper on the hunt of a serial killer, played by an extremely pumped-up version of Lost star Matthew Fox.

"You're gonna want to prepare yourself for this one," says John C. McGinley as he contacts the big man with news of his latest case. "A woman was tortured to death." Oh dear, looks like this one is going to get a mite grisly…

While the action is every bit as meaty as you'd expect, we've got a few concerns over the script, with Perry growling out his one-liners as if reading from "hard-boiled dialogue 101". That said, Fox looks pleasingly demented as the villain of the piece, a world away from his good doctor routine from Lost .

Featuring an ensemble cast that also includes Jean Reno, Edward Burns and Rachel Nichols, Alex Cross opens in the UK on 30 November 2012. In the meantime, you can take a gander at the new poster, below...
