Far Cry 3: See combat and environments in new gameplay footage

Last week's Far Cry 3 announcement from Ubisoft was missing one notable element: a decent chunk of first-person footage from the game in action. The company's rectified that today, with the release of a good five minutes of in-game footage showing how the title's looking during those bits between cutscenes. There's plenty of NSFW language in here – but that probably doesn't worry you too much today (thanks, Presidents)!

Besides first-person-shooting (which is looking just fine, thank you), the new footage also allows a glimpse at the game's first-person-exploring and first-person-crazy-old-pharmacologist-placating elements, all of which look every bit as pretty and intriguing as you'd expect. Not much explanation given as to how the game's hero goes from clueless vacationer to neck-stabbing sociopath – but with Ubi having pitched the game's story as one of paranoia and psychological turmoil, that'll just be one more thing to look forward to finding out. That, or there's something in those mushrooms.

I definitely like the look of this one. I just hope it's a more linear experience. My main gripe with Far Cry 2 was that it was too open and it was damn slow getting around. Don't get me wrong, I like open gameplay, more similar to Crysis than Far Cry 2 though.

I hope this game has the same survival feel to it as the first 2. I'm guessing that footage was all action oriented on purpose, but I'll still feel better once I see some real stealth/trap making/recon style stuff. The original Far Cry had those elements, so why not bring them back a 100x better with the software and hardware we have now?

Am I crazy or does the main character sound like Nolan North?

    Is Skrillex the final boss?

That AK doesn't sound too happy, but the rest looks promising. A non-mute main character who isn't gruff and generic?

If the campaign is a good length I will definitely buy this day 1 or week 1.

It looks sick but there are too many things going on the HUD. I enjoyed the whole pulling out your map thing and not having a radar in Far Cry 2. Honestly I was hoping there wasn't even going to be an indicator telling you how many bullets or grenades you are. What Far cry does great is immersion and that's why I love the series.

The first thing I noticed was the soundtrack sounding a lot like Camperfield 3. Looking good though. I liked that knife stab/throw combo.

Those shot indicators need to go away, also the AK sounds pitiful. Hard to tell but maybe the enemies aren't such bullet sponges this time around.

It's the same sound effect as was used in Far Cry 2, might just be temporary. Anyway, I think I can work with some first person Uncharted on drugs. Definitely digging the colour palette.

Uhhh... Far Cry 3 wasn't announced last week... it was announced at last E3...

I think they mean "release date announcement". Anyway, game is looking damn pretty on the 360. Was anyone else reminded of Skyrim when he got a "quest" to go into that "dungeon" and find a mushroom?

That's the feeling i got, a modern exotic skyrim.
