This is killing me.. How did NO ONE catch that Super Mario World game over acoustic guitar riff earlier in the movie? I can't remember exactly when it was but I'm sure it was near the beginning of the middle of the film...

One more: Sex Bob-omb's ape avatar in the fight against the twins more closely resembles one of Kameo's forms in Rare's 360 game.

I really think the "X" in the snow was related to a level in N64's GoldenEye.

How about when scott is fighting Matthew Patel; Wallace says asks what he's wearing, "are you a pirate or what?" so him fighting scott (the ninja as in the arcade game) is the age old Pirate vs. Ninja debate!! :)

**************SPOILERS! FROM HERE ON, IT'S EITHER YOUR OWN CURIOSITY OR STUPIDITY THAT LEADS YOU********************* I think that when Scott dies, it's a reference to Resident Evil 2 or 3, like when you die, it shows your character, and says "YOU ARE DEAD" (I think), it points to Scott and says "DEAD". I may be wrong, and someone may have said that already but, hey.

You missed one.In one of the scenes, Scott is clearly wearing an Astro Boy T-shirt.
  • embracethisjosh - November 19, 2010 9:11 p.m.

Seems like the Ramona hammer scene is actually a reference to Meru from The Legend Of Dragoon

Ever think the seven evil ex's are like the seven kids of Bowser in Mario 3?
  • n00b - November 19, 2010 2:26 a.m.

you also missed the part where scott punches roxy in the boob is pretty much the same move that makto from street fighter does
  • matthurley - November 18, 2010 7:52 a.m.

it kinda feels like the "hey... HEY!' at the end of the dream sequence could be a reference to Navi...
  • cyclone306 - November 16, 2010 9:10 a.m.

great fucking movie. You missed a reference though. When Scott & Ramona meet for the first time after he gets the package delivered. she says something like "I'm waiting on you" which is what kerrigan said in the first starcraft.
  • boondocks50 - November 15, 2010 1:01 a.m.

what about the TMP thats seen before roxy hits the ground in the ally after being punched in the boob
  • CHAINSAWhaxor - November 14, 2010 7:05 p.m.

At the very end, after the credits roll, a sprite version of Scott throws his arm up in the air and warps away , a reference to the Megaman series where Megaman/X does the same thing after defeating a Robot Master/Maverick

OK, this is driving me nuts. The typeface that is used on Chaos Theatre Level 7 is from a game, and I can't for the life of me remember which one it is. It is so familiar it is driving me crazy.

Great article Mantista! Saw it in theaters, and I am buying on Bluray. I have always liked Cera since Arrested Development. This movie fucking rocks.

Friggin' Awesome. Any article that has two pictures of NES Ducktales is a deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
  • TDUBBS - November 12, 2010 1:43 a.m.

Recently saw the blu-ray and liked it, but this article kind of ruined the movie for me. most of these things seemed like cool references to gaming as a culture, but now that I know things like the names of places and the fighting stances are lifted from specific games it seems to demean the films creativity. Instead of being a clever and original movie, now it just looks like it is simply relying on references to gain the cult following I'm sure it will get. Not a bad movie, just not for me.
