Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion revealed for 3DS

A new, new Mickey Mouse game has been confirmed for arrival. As revealed on the cover of April's Nintendo Power issue, the big-eared mascot is making the journey to the 3DS for a brand new game called Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.

The game is being developed by DreamRift, the studio behind the 2011 DS title Monster Tale. Not much is known about Mickey's portable foray, except that the magazine states it is being made as a spiritual successor to the 1990 Genesis title Mickey's Castle of Illusion. According to last week's rumors out of Nintendo Magazine's France office (obtained by NeoGaf), the game will also consist of 2D elements.

It's unclear how much Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion will tie in to Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, the Epic Mickey sequel revealed last week by Warren Spector for Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360; and later glimpsed in our feature, Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two preview - what's new? Given the name and timing, we're sure there will be at least some connection. In the meantime, we'll keep our ears perked for more information as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Power's April issue will hit stands for non-subscribers in early April.

I never played the Genesis game in question, but given that it says it will have 2D elements and I liked the 2D sections in Epic Mickey, this is one to keep an eye on for sure.

Interesting, a follow up to the Genesis title? Should be noted, lets see what more info pops up later
