E3 2011: Uncharted 3 co-op play trailer brings double the enemies and double the helicopters

A separate three player co-op mode to play through in Uncharted 3? Yes, please. As E3 draws in, Sony have delivered some hot news before the show, mainly this brand-new way to play through Uncharted.

Sure it's not everybody's cup of tea, but with this co-op mode being very much in place to compliment the main course that is the solo campaign, Uncharted 3 looks set to be one hell of a package for PS3 owners.

If we're honest, as much as the action in the video above looks slick we can't help but notice the low-res in the visuals. The graphics aren't quite as sexy as we've come to expect from the Uncharted series, but with three-players connecting over the interwebs, we expect something had to give.

Still, the new gameplay mechanics displayed in the trailer shows that Nathan will now be able to shoot vertically as you climb, rather than relying on his trusty pull from a ledge and listen for the scream manoeuvre. There's also a points system in place to keep a competitive streak to the multiplayer side of things, which Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light delivers so well. So headshots and killstreaks will be very much the order of the day.

And if rumours are to be believed then this co-op story will follow the lives of various characters throughout, so expect to be playing as some unfamiliar people as well as Drake and Sully.

We were already hot for Uncharted 3 but with each new droplet of information our temperature rises to sweat-inducing levels. Check back at 6pm GMT for even more Uncharted 3 goodness.

So what you're saying is that this game will absolutely be worth every penny of the $60 it costs? Sounds good to me.

That has to be the most annoying gunshot sounds I have ever heard.
  • Kang81 - June 4, 2011 3:56 a.m. I mean, I can never get enough of some good co-op action!

Now this is more up my alley in terms of online multi-player! I can only play so many online shooters, and this year it's limited to Battlefield 3 and possibly Gears of War 3. I had a blast in the beta and I may actually be a fan again after the craptastic Gears 2! I can't wait for Uncharted 3 though! I just hope it releases before Skyrim, once that releases I'm saying goodbye to all other games for a long time! Except for squeezing in a little Battlefied 3.

I need to buy a new PS3. I can't wait for this game! It looks just as good as 2!

Sorry, those choppers just don't have the same intimidation factor going for them as the Hinds from the last game did when. Sure, they're still airborne gun platforms of death, but a Hind is a goddamn Hind.

@DarkSynopsis pretty sure he meant that... I would love to see a storyline portion that had actual coop. Also as for the low-res visuals, maybe its possible they will have it in the same graphics but this video or encode is bad? Unless you saw this coop live and can vouch for it.

Me gusta mucho. Can't wait for the beta!

Uncharted 2 had Co-Op play? I'm pretty sure I played some 3 player co-op even if it was in a wave form that was co-op... Looking forward to this enjoyed the first game and loved the 2nd game even more I really should buy it instead of just having rented it that one time.

Hold on, is this online only? Or can I get my friends over to my house and play it together?
  • Sharkbot - June 3, 2011 3:22 p.m.

3 Player co-op? That's pretty boss, coming from a PC owner. If I had to pick a console PS3 would be the obvious choice. Good thing I dont though (:

Sully's gotten pretty nimble eh heh. But seriously this game looked amazing already, and now a co-op mode too? Naughty Dog has really outdone themselves. I love that shoot as you climb idea.
