E3 2011: FYI - the Nintendo conference featured footage from Xbox 360 and PS3 games. Just sayin'

Now, don't flame us here. We're just mentioning this for the benefit of anyone that might not be familiar with how these things work. So we're just clearing it up. To avoid confusion. You know that exciting video of the Wii U software line up that Nintendo showed during its conference? Well that footage was from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of those games. This is the video we're talking about:

Because everyone obviously took it for granted that the footage being shown as part of Nintendo's Wii U showcase was indeed from 360 and PS3 games, Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime had no problem confirming this was the case in an interview with GameTrailers.

When asked if the sizzle reel footage was taken from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the games shown, Fils-Aime replied, "Absolutely, because we're a year away from when the system's going to launch." Then in his mind he probably thought 'What an asshole question. Who the fuck would be stupid enough to not realise that?'

Above: This didn't happen. Why would it? Everyone knew already

So that's that. Just thought it was worth mentioning in case you know someone not as smart as you that may have foolishly assumed the footage was actually from work-in-progress Wii U games. What silly-heads. They won't make that mistake again.

(Sorry to double-post. I forgot a comment I wanted to respond to before hitting post last time.) TartanSpartan01 said: "if they are in development i can guarantee just went back to the drawing board, like it or not whatever youre next console is,it will have a screen on the controller." (In my opinion) You couldn't be any more dead wrong, on multiple levels. First off, let me apologize for how hard this reply is to read. No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to word what I mean exactly right. So, my comments might not be as clear as they should be, in regards to what I am meaning to convey. There is nothing that the Cafe has that should make the other companies worried enough to change anything. None are going to "go back to the drawing board" for anything. Why would they? The graphic power of the Cafe? No. Since the Cafe (arguably) is on par with PS3 and Xbox 360 graphically, you are implying that Sony and Microsofts next systems are only planning on being the same graphics power as this gen, or just a little more. Otherwise, there would be no need to go back to the drawing board after seeing Cafe graphics. As for saying that the next systems "will have a screen on the controller," that is insane to claim. First and foremost, the ONLY way that they would add a screen to the controllers is if the Cafe is a massive success. And it isn't going to be. Secondly, you can't realistically claim that Nintendo adding the screen will make it become standard in the industry. As a comparison, 6 months ago, if people were talking about the Cafe, everyone was saying "Well, obviously it will have 3D, since the 3DS does" and "Since they have a motion control system (with the Revolution), it is obvious that their next system (Cafe) will also be based around motion control." Just as you "guaranteed" that the Cafe will cause massive changes for Sony and MS, and that all systems will go towards a screen on the controller, I guarantee even more admantly that NEITHER of these things will happen. It's just stupid to think the Cafe will have any impact on the other systems. Unless it is a massive success (was hard to even type that with a straight face), in which case, it will be years before Sony and MS have developed controllers/systems to compete with the Cafe.

*shakes head sadly* This really might be a significant issue. People have said "Of course it is not Cafe footage. The Cafe won't be actually made for another year." The problem with this is you're thinking too literally. With the new system only a year away, they sure as hell better have enough of the specs and OS written so to run an emulator for developers to use. So, there is no acceptable reason to not being able to run real Cafe code by now. The system physically produced yet? Probably not. The system advanced enough to make an emulation of it for PC's? Obviously it should be.

I don't think you get it RandyChimp and andybeans. The actual games and demos shown off at E3 were on the WiiU and they DID look better than current gen graphics (of course). The only thing that wasn't shown with WiiU graphics were these lineup games for when the system is actually out and the games have been made for it.
  • shadowreaper72 - June 9, 2011 6:42 p.m.

Well call me a silly head cause I fell for it. Now I feel stupid lol.
  • Troid - June 9, 2011 5:06 p.m.

@ Sy87 It's not an add-on, it's whole new system, that's reportedly more powerful than the PS3/360. That being the case it's going to get alot of ports that may not show off it's full potential. They showed 360/PS3 footage on those games because the system is a year away and those devs probably have only just started the process of moving them to the new system. They just showed that the system would be getting those games; who knows, if the individual devs decide to put effort into the port the games themselves may end up being better in the process.
  • Sy87 - June 9, 2011 4:22 p.m.

Ahahahaha so they didn't make anything really worth caring about. Its just another add-on that comes standard as an nintendo marketing ploy. Sad but the U does look interesting. I wonder if my nintendo loving friend will care for this. He did after all pack up his wii for a 360.
  • TartanSpartan01 - June 9, 2011 3:59 p.m.

@andybeans "Nintendo have become a joke... the kind of joke only kids and drunk people find amusing." have you heard what the developers think of it?il save you some time, they dont think its a joke.that means good games that you WILL like and since consoles are only as good as their games it will be at least good(assuming you actually like games).I know you aint a PS3 owner cause you dont have anything especially first party games to stay loyal for that isnt a pish version of some better xbox game.because of its power all 3rd party games will be released for it. and microsoft and sonys next offerings if they are in development i can guarantee just went back to the drawing board, like it or not whatever youre next console is,it will have a screen on the controller.peace out

i was a silly head at the time. it was one of those water cooler/refrigerator moments as they are known... i was totally caught up in the moment. and then i got up later to go to the kitchen and while i was in the fridge i went... "WAAAAAIT A MINUTE." it took a minute. but yeah. i'll wait patiently. part of it i think is they were gauging reaction to know exactly what direction to go in this time around. yep.
  • ThatGuyFromTV - June 9, 2011 12:55 p.m.

Honestly, I dont see the huge deal here. I mean, yeah, it's a bit misleading, but I'm more psyched about how much third-party support the machine has right out of the gate, and Nintendo is being honest with it this early, so they can't think much of it either. The thing's more than a year away, I don't think any U-developed games are past the pre-alpha yet, if they're even at that point.
  • MySistersMenstruationTastesFunny - June 9, 2011 12:46 p.m.

Haha, oh they denied it? Then there's no way they could have, you know, the build specs in a PC case like they do.
  • shawksta - June 9, 2011 12:33 p.m.

Andybeans you just wanna say anything to bash them. EA did deny it so your arguments invalid
  • Darkwun - June 9, 2011 12:26 p.m.

didnt EA point blank refuse they were working on the next x box? regardless, ur going on guesswork and unconfirmed reports on both sides, so u really dont have anything to base ur last statement on but ur own opinion
  • andybeans - June 9, 2011 12:12 p.m.

"Absolutely, because we're a year away from when the system's going to launch." Microsoft haven't even announced their next console, but EA already have a prototype they're using for development testing and presumably have some code already running on it. So have Nintendo actually built a working prototype yet or have they just designed a new box for the Wii and an iPad? Nintendo have become a joke... the kind of joke only kids and drunk people find amusing.
  • RacattackForce - June 9, 2011 12:08 p.m.

Um, yeah, this was pretty obvious. Unless the system is just months away from launch, us seeing actual footage of games-in-progress is slim. For example, think about when the Xbox 360 was first demoed...none of the games were even running on a 360.
  • RandyChimp - June 9, 2011 12:06 p.m.

Ha, I read a tonne of forum messages when the Wii U was announced saying that the graphics looked better than the 360 or PS3. Fanboys, words, eat!
  • shawksta - June 9, 2011 11:54 a.m.

Thank you, fanboys are jumping to conclusions so easily, but I doubt its gonna stop them from bashing nintendo like the kids they are
  • BigWillis - June 9, 2011 11:09 a.m.

There's a screenshot of a new Ubisoft FPS for the WiiU. It doesn't look amazing.
  • Crabhand - June 9, 2011 11:08 a.m.

Why must you poo on our lollipop dreams, Cundy? Think of the poor children for once! How do you think they will feel being called silly-heads?
  • Armannen - June 9, 2011 11:03 a.m.

How could they not reach this conclusion? Wii U versions displayed at Wii U display? Silly silly-heads.
