Dungeon Siege 3 announced for PS3, 360, and PC

Square Enix announced today that Dungeon Siege 3 is under development by Obsidian Entertainment, with some direction from Chris Taylor, Dungeon Siege's creator, and his studio, Gas Powered Games. This is the first Dungeon Siege to come to consoles.

“It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Obsidian. They are a very talented developer who really knows what it takes to build a deep and engaging RPG experience, and I can’t think of a better group to continue the Dungeon Siege series,” said Taylor. And then Feargus Urquhart, CEO and Co-Founder of Obsidian Entertainment, said some nice things about Gas Powered Games and Square Enix. And then Square Enix said some nice things about Obsidian and Gas Powered Games. And all was right in Business Land.

Above: More pretty concept art

According to the press release, the action RPG will include co-op, a deep story (an RPG with a story?), customizable character classes (no way), companions (now you're just pulling our legs...), and "weighty decisions" (ludicrous!). So basically, it'll be an RPG, like the previous games.

But we jest - our sarcasm is only press release weariness. This is actually exciting. Dungeon Siege II was great, and if you like RPGs but aren't the PC type, you've been missing out. We just hope that your only experience with the series isn't the Uwe Boll film.

If you're already a fan of the series, you may be concerned about the change of developer, but Obsidian does seem like a natural fit, with previous games like KotOR II, Neverwinter Nights II, and Alpha Protocol. And, as stated, the developer is working with input from the series' creator, Gas Powered Games.

Above: Dammit, now we're in a sieging mood, and we have nothing to siege

It will be hard to compete against Diablo III wich should come out in time for 2011 holidays (I belive). Still, DS3 can get really popular in it's console's versions, since there aren't really many options in the action-RPG genre.

@GamesRadarTylerWilde If you are, you also have to one on The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. That game has some of the best music produced for a game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNYwwva7L_A&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtDYUV-UMtQ&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTkbpdDE1n8&feature=related

The Dungeon Siege games were light on story, just what exactly will Obsidian do is beyond me. Here's hoping beyond hope it won't disappoint.

@GamesRadarTylerWilde That would be amazing! The first Dungeon Siege made up a very large chunk of my childhood, and the music with it. I need the soundtrack on CD.

@LizarDAZZLE Yeah it was! Maybe I should do a Game Music of the Day sometime...

wow, the DS community is sure to be ecstatic over this news. I remember play DS2 years ago. It was enjoyable, but had virtually no replay value. Every enemy was in the same spot and the loot was always in the same place each play through. There was also a pretty lame story behind it. But god DAMN was the music good! http://tinyurl.com/town123 http://tinyurl.com/ds2main
