Donkey Kong Country Returns returns: 3DS remake coming

The Wii's Donkey Kong Country Returns is set to give its 2.5D shenaningens a boost to 3D later this year by way of a remake for the 3DS. Currently slated for summer, the aptly named Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is a "built from the ground up" remaster of the 2010 Wii game by Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios.

The remake is certainly a good fit for the 3DS. The original game makes heavy use of layered play fields and depth of field effects for a great deal of in and out of screen gameplay. Those wanting to check out how well the effect translates to 'real' 3D can check out a gameplay video that has just gone live on the 3DS' eShop.

DKC Returns has always been on my list of games to buy that I never got around too. Getting to play it and not have to use the damn Wiimote could be the push I need to finally buy it.

o.O HOLY HELL YES!!! As someone that didn't own a wii, DKR was one of the main games I did wish I could have played, the fact that they are remaking it for the 3DS makes me infinitely happy! :3 (And yay for no waggle! What little interactions I've had with the wii made me convinced that waggle was utterly detrimental to games.) If I may be honest, this latest Nintendo Direct has been far more pleasant than the previous one to me XD

No waggle??? Thank God! The fact that they completely skipped adding the classic controller was a slap in the face. There are two types of people. Those who tried to complete any of the time trials and those who didn't mind the waggle.

If there's 1 good thing about it, its that you can basically play the game WITHOUT Waggle, one of Bretts complaints that i personality didnt have in his review and others in general
