Seems bad picking on an old man going through huge medical challenges, but the fact is he's wrong. Ironic that a supposedly high-minded critic is falling back on such an immature behavior: Picking a fight with what he doesn't understand. One of our other writers asked why it mattered. I told him I think it's because these are the people non-gamers listen to. So now, because Ebert says games aren't art, I get to listen to Fox news tell my in-laws that I'm helping turn their grandaughter into a crack whore. And frankly, I'm tired of defending games to a generation that's busy destroying the environment, sinking the economy, watching entire cities spiral into drugs and poverty, and demolishing the entire Social Security system as it ages. But that's just me.
