DC Universe Online launching on January 11, 2011

Sony Online Entertainment recently announced a release date for DC Universe Online. The action MMO is now scheduled to launch for both the PlayStation 3 and PC worldwide on January 11, 2011. The announcement comes on the heels of the beta phase for the PlayStation 3 version, which opened its doors to PlayStation Plus members earlier this month.

The anticipated retail price for North American audiences will be $59.99 for the PlayStation 3 version and $49.99 for the PC version. The game will offer a 30-day free membership, but will require a monthly subscription fee of $14.99 to keep playing.

DC Universe Online has come a long way since Sony Online Entertainment first announced plans to work with Warner Bros. to produce an MMO based on the characters from the DC Comics universe in 2005. Since then, the original target launch date for late 2007 has been pushed back multiple times.

However, after spending some time in the closed beta for the PC version, it appears that the wait may have been worth it. You can check out our earlier hands-on impressions here. In the meantime, you can check out this extra amazing CG trailer and some gameplay footage below.

Now if only there was an MMo that didn't have monthly fees. -_-

@IGiveUFunkButt what do you mean lifetime subscription? is that an option given when registering or do you specify that on the main website?

Uhm guys... Jan 11 2011 is like under a month and personally I don't like how little time they've spent fixing bugs on the PS3 version, its pretty poor much as I like the game.

That gives me near enough a year to get over how amazing The Old Republic will be. I'm really digging those physics, it's looking more like Super Hero Crackdown the MMO now, I dig.

This might just be the mmorpg I can actually get into. The beta is fun, but very buggy. Hopefully this will get fixed before it gets out.

Makes sense that it'd be over a year from now. The PS3 beta has a lot of issues...
