Chicken Soup for the Space Marine Soul: New Warhammer 40k Online screens and video released

Planning to visit the 41st century? Better bring a gun. Publisher THQ has released nine new screenshots and a trailer from its upcoming Warhammer: 40,000: Dark Millennium Online. Developed by Vigil Games, the next chapter in the franchise is set to transform the popular table-top game into a full-blown MMO, pitting gamers against each other in the Sargos Sector for supreme control of its lost worlds, online cred and, of course, tons of shiny, metallic loot.

Warhammer 40k Online is set to launch shortly. In the meantime, enjoy a little of the old ultra-violence with these game pics and trailer.

The universes of star wars and of warhammer are both very unique and in depth. Star Wars has its books, comics, movies, shows, and whatnot while the 40K universe has not only the gamers and books, but a big table top fan base from Games Workshop. Ive played the table top before (mega nerd here) and its like each game is a whole different story. Just an example, there are so many fan made chapters for the Space Marines, and each chapter has its own unique story. What id like to see most in this game is how well Vigil games follows all these different paths.

Migglez, I'm with you on the Tau. Thatd be a fun progression of starting out as a fire warrior or pathfinder and then leveling up to a crisis suit or a stealth suit. Hell playing as a Kroot would be pretty damn fun too, maybe tote around a Kroot Hound or Krootox in your little retinue... Spacegrass, I respect your opinion. Comparing Bioware to Vigil is kind of a joke, and comparing the depth of 40K to the Star Wars universe is challenging as well. I enjoy both in equal measure, although the black and white morality of the Star Wars universe can get tiresome for me. Bioware has easily rectified that though with the creation of the Kotor universe, where everything is a little more grey.

    isnt it the 41st mellenium???
  • Spacegrass - August 21, 2010 7:34 a.m.

If this had come out any time in the last decade, I'd be on board right way; but, I'm sorry, as cool as 40k is it can't compete with Star Wars. I'm gonna have to go with the Old Republic instead. Then again, Chaos Space Marines are way cooler than the Sith Empire...
  • Migglez - August 21, 2010 6:09 a.m.

Haha love the small band of ppl who know this universe tho i could add id love to play as a grey night.
  • Migglez - August 21, 2010 6:07 a.m.

dope as fuck @gotxxrock same here man its like making me depressed im have to wait. ive played teh table top and i have to say id love to rock out on some Tau scootin around as stealth suits or a broadside.

Good to see a follower of Jonson and Russ amongst us. This is either going to be the greatest veneration to Warhammer 40,000 ever or another dissapointing chapter of mediocrity and Mehness in the MMO community.
  • Strangeblades - August 21, 2010 4:48 a.m.

CountFenring, Gotxxrock you are not the only ones interested. I have been waiting this game my whole life! (slight exaggeration there). Cannot wait to play a Dark Angel or Space Wolf. Purge the unclean! PS: This is also my first post in two years in coming to this site.
  • RedHarlow - August 21, 2010 4:45 a.m.

I've only recently gotten into the Warhammer 40k universe, but this looks like it's going to be pretty damn fun.
  • CountFenring - August 21, 2010 3:52 a.m.

Yes indeed. I do not think there will be a GamesRadar clan in this game.
  • Gotxxrock - August 21, 2010 3:26 a.m.

CountFenring... it depresses me that we are the only two people talking about this.
  • Gotxxrock - August 21, 2010 1:34 a.m.

Heh, that'd be an interesting dynamic. Would be fun to run around as a commissar with a bolt pistol, using it more readily on your guardsmen then the enemy. *Bam* Leadership test passed!!
  • CountFenring - August 21, 2010 12:01 a.m.

@Gotxxrock I heard the guardsmen would be in squads, which would make their combat ability closer to that of a Space Marine.
  • Gotxxrock - August 20, 2010 11:55 p.m.

Would be fun to have a servitor retinue as a priest. No... itd be awesome. Wonder what perks a guardsman is going to get over a space marine... maybe offscreen artillery support or set up heavy weapons. Also, some of those screens hint at Adeptus Arbites... at least the second one seems to suggest it.
  • CountFenring - August 20, 2010 11:47 p.m.

Totally rolling Adeptus Mechanicus. I liked the inclusion of the warp entrance video from DoW2.
