Taken from the official guide:

America, 1870. People flock to the freedom and flavors of the West. The only place where there is no law. Every vice is available for a price, where the will to survive and a gun can take you far. You are Colton White; this is your story.

It didn't take much to motivate a man to action during the days of the Old West. Most often it only took the promise of riches, the touch of a woman, or the sweet taste of revenge to set a man in motion. It's now the late 1800's, hundreds of years after the Old West was first explored, and signs of man's so-called progress was everywhere. But the place hasn't gotten any safer. Not even for a father and son team of hunters living off the land in Montana. Colton and the man he calls pop, Ned White, were happily making their living selling furs and meat to the men cruising the Missouri River until an unexpected attack. Everyone is slaughtered except for the one person the attackers couldn't afford to have live.

Colton White is a skilled frontiersman. Raised by Ned, he was taught at an early age to hunt, to live off the land, and to defend himself. Colton, who often goes by Cole, is skilled with a wide range of weapons, from knives to rifles, but the pistol is his true love. He's a talented horseman and poker player. But as impressive as these skills are, it's his determination and dedication to doing what's right that draws so many to his side and inspires loyalty. Right now, he's dedicated to slaughtering the men responsible for Ned's death.

GUN takes place in the Old West during the late nineteenth century and features an expansive enviroment spanning from Montana to New Mexico. During his journey Colton travels to every corner of this great land, tangling with Apache warriors, outlaws, and bandits, and even dangerous wildlife. Few spots in the Old West were truly safe, and men seeking revenge of the order that Colton is after are advised to sleep with one eye open.

Characters [Gun.02.01.00]
================================================================================

Colton White
Colton "Cole" White had grown up idolizing the man he thought was his father, Ned White. He learned the ways of the outdoors from Ned, absorbed his teachings in their Montana frontier classroom. He looked to emulate the man at every chance.
As if the question of his family history wasn't enough to answer, Colton is also left alone to avenge the death of Ned. Fortunately, he has the skills to do it. Colton is a skilled marksman, both with the pistol and the rifle, and is at home on a horse with or without a saddle. He has plenty of cussedness, as Ned like to call it, and isn't about to back down to any man. Especially when faced with an opportunity to stand up for those on the right side of the law.

Jenny
Jenny is the main attraction at the Alhambra brothel in Dodge City and is as savvy as she is beautiful. She cares deeply for the women who work with her at the Alhambra and is friends with many of them, especially Ned's lover Saddie. Jenny isn't content with the small town life of Dodge City and anxiously awaits the Journey south to Empire City in New Mexico.

Mayor Hoodoo Brown
This fast-talking mayor of Empire City is on the take from Magruder's railroad company. He is far more interested in lining his pockets, than he is in leading his fine city to prominence. Hoodoo Brown has made a number of enemies in Empire City due to his dirty practices and as such has deputized two men he can trust to be his personal bodyguards.

Clay Allison
Clay is one of the Resistance, the men dedicated to keeping Magruder and his men out of the frontier and restoring some dignity to the Old West. Clay is a bit of an ideologue - there's little arguing that - but he has good intentions and is a proud leader. Best of all, he's a man of his word and his men love him for it.

Thomas Magruder
Thomas Magruder is the man driving the train clear across the country, straight through Apache territory, and into the golden hills west of Nevada. His railroad is vital in reshaping the Old West and even more critical to delivering him the riches he so craves. But as is so often the case in a land without law, there is always more to a man than he first lets on. Thomas Magruder's interests extend beyond the railroad and its accompanying riches to an artifact beyond value and he's willing to do whatever it takes to secure it.

Reverend Josiah Reed
This "jack preacher" is a far more dastardly man then he is righteous. He uses the guise of being of the cloth to gain the trust of those he wishes to betray and then unleashes unholy hell on the unexpecting. Reverend Reed is also a man of considerable physical stature. He's tall, he's strong, and has what it takes to protect himself.

Hollister
Hollister was the commander of the raid on the Morning Star and runs a fort on the Missouri River.
He's big, he's strong, and he's extremely intimidating. As such, his men treat him like a God, as they're too afraid to question his authority. Hollister has a lot of vices - he enjoys the drink and women a bit too much - but none worse than his inexplicable hatred of the natives whose land he steals.

Ned White
Ned White had plenty of secrets, but none bigger than the one he kept from Colton. He raised the boy to be a man under the false pretense of Colton being his flesh and blood. Fate grants him enough time to reveal this deceit to Colton before his death, but his reasons remain a mystery.
Ned is an experienced outdoorsman and hunter and makes a living selling skins and meat to the riverboats cruising along the Missouri River. But this isn't the extent of his pursuits. He also has a keen interest in a mysterious relic that seals his fate and sets a complex sequence of events in motion.

Port
Port introduces Colton to the Resistance and is quick to befriend him. Port is a talented horseman and a sharp shot with a pistol. He's often the first volunteer for all of Clay's crazy plans - even when it involves torching a printing press and getting thrown into the slammer.

Soapy
Soapy is too smart for his own good and doesn't seem cognizant of his own mortality. He's a smooth talker, a safe cracker, and a poker cheat. And in these parts, that's three big, deadly strikes against him.

Fight-At-Dawn
This Blackfoot chief is a proud warrior concerned for the future of his tribe and saddened by the white man's arbitary murder and theft. He is also a friend of Colton's and remembers an encounter Colton had with a cougar when he was younger. It was one of Fights-At-Dawn's shaman who helped heal Colton. For that Colton would be grateful for the rest of his life.

Weapons
================================================================================

Pistols

Colt Navy Revolver 1851
The Colt Navy Revolver 1851 is a basic run-of-the-mill pistol with minimal stopping power and an adequate firing rate.
Damage: 3
Fire Rate: 4
Reload: 6

Schofield
The Schofield has break-apart action, which allows for faster reloads. It also has good close-range stopping power.
Damage: 4
Fire Rate: 5
Reload: 7

Volcanic 10
The Volcanic 10 has a quick reload and holds 10 bullets. It also packs a far more punch than Colton's previous pistols.
Damage: 6
Fire Rate: 7
Reload: 8

Dual Peacemakers (Colt .45's)
These are the revolvers that rule the West. Hoodoo's dual-Colt .45's are high powered, fast-shooting, and fast loading. The already deadly Colton is beyond rival with these weapons.
Damage: 6
Fire Rate: 9
Reload: 10

Rifles

Winchester 1866
The Winchester 1866 was the most common rifle of the era and, as such, Colton finds many of his enemies wielding it as well. It packs a good punch and is relatively easy to reload, but the firing rate is rather slow.
Damage: 6
Fire Rate: 2
Reload: 4

Ferguson
The Ferguson belonged to Ned and it's good for Colton to reclaim this family heirloom. This .69 caliber rifle has a very fast firing rate, reloads in a jiffy, and has incredible stopping power. It has no equal.
Damage: 9
Fire Rate: 8
Reload: 6

Shotguns

Winchester Model 1887
This weapon is slow to reload, but great for ripping through enemies in close-quarters combat.
Damage: 8
Fire Rate: 5
