=====
1. [JS] What are jobs and skills?
In the game, Blue Dragon, your characters fight using their Shadow,
an avatar based on their character. The five Shadows are Dragon (Shu),
Phoenix (Kluke), Minotaur (Jiro), Saber-Tooth (Marumaro), and Vampire Bat
(Zola). The characters have their own individual stats, but for gameplay
purposes, all shadows are the same with the exception of their appearance.
The jobs themselves are what add statistic modifications.
There are two separate leveling mechanisms in the game, character
levels and job levels (ranks). In order to fight enemies in the game, you
shadows will need to have job levels (ranks). The first three Jobs available
are Sword Master, White Mage, and Black Mage. As you characters gain levels,
your shadows unlock more jobs. You get to pick which jobs you want out of
all them, there is no unlocking one job to get to another, and unlocking all
jobs is based on characters leveling higher and higher (every 10 levels a new
job is unlocked).
All 9 Jobs have skills associated with them. Skills are learned at
predetermined job levels (ranks) and are not related to character levels at
all. All jobs have a basic skill which cannot be removed while your
character's shadow is using that job. There are also empty skill slots for
you to put any skill that your shadow has unlocked from any job it has
played. Jobs can level to 99, but skills themselves stop after certain
levels. This leaves complete customization in the hands of the player. Just
remember that whatever job your shadow is currently set will change your
stats to alter that job. So if you have unlocked skills for Sword Master and
start leveling Black Mage next, you will want to make sure you put the
character in the back row because the Black Mage job is more vulnerable than
the Sword Master. Likewise, you will not be able to attack as well from the
back row if you try using some of the Sword Master's skills as a Black Mage.
The above example shows that though you have complete customization, you
will want to play around with the different job skills to make the best
character you can, and you have 5 characters to play with. Some job skill
combinations are better than others. Remember that you must equip the skills
in order to use them, only the basic skill is always on for each job. So now,
on to the jobs and skills themselves.
