Call of Duty: The War Collection now available for chumps

Call of Duty: The War Collection, which includes Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, and Call of Duty: World at War, was released today. The 360-exclusive bundle is selling at full price ($59.99USD). PS3 owners, you may still be missing out on CoD 2, but don't worry, you probably didn't want this bundle anyway.

Check the used prices on Amazon - you can get all three games for a total of $24.23, less than half the price of the collection. For the sake of argument, let's say you hate used games. You must have new ones, and you really want all three. Sure, fine, you can't get all three games new for less. You could, however, get CoD 4: Modern Warfare and World at War new for $46.53, which is a much better "bundle" in our opinion.

If you really want to donate to Activision, or are a clueless parent looking for a birthday present, go for it, but we'll tell you a secret... used games are actually the same game! And honestly, how much do you really need a new copy of CoD 2 for the 360? Great game, but you do recall that it looks like this:

And we realize you aren't stupid, but it's funnier when we sound condescending toward an imaginary person who thinks this is a great deal.

Wow yeah that screenshot really makes you realise how long it has actually been since the 360 came out and how far it has come since then. WaW still looks pretty good though. It isn't even two years old yet though so you would expect as much. Just get that one
  • batmanboy11 - June 8, 2010 7:07 p.m.

I like all three games, but I've beaten all of them and still own two.
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - June 8, 2010 7:08 p.m.

@batmanboy11 I figured that'd be the case for most of us who are interested in CoD, but I suppose there might be some out there who want these games, and haven't played any of them...? Maybe?
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - June 8, 2010 7:09 p.m.

Continuing...I guess if you're just now getting a 360, and never played PC games. I think sometimes I forget that there are teenagers out there who haven't had access to games like this until recently... it's weird though. And there's no reason not to just go used, unless you're a collector.
  • CH3BURASHKA - June 8, 2010 7:14 p.m.

Wow, I feel so dumb; I had not realized or even suspected any of this. Activision, you clever devils!
  • crumbdunky - June 8, 2010 7:19 p.m.

Thing is, Tyler, aren't we starting to wonder just how far Acti will go with all this milking before they buy a fekkin' dairy. I mean, we get one per year(and now with added weakened Wii versions)already, you can't ,move for the damn things! And anyway Bobby would look just dandy tending a herd of Fresian/Guernsey crosses and thinking about his gold top yield. For Christ's sake, didn't they learn ANYTHING from running GH into the effin ground? Personally I'm waiting for the day when we can all play COD/MW without the crse of small teams and lag due to their tightwad insistence on hamstringing a series we're told is "premium" at every turn with sodding P2P. where are the dedicated servers Activision? It's 2010 and a host of PSN games, some Live games and most PC shooters enjoy dedicated server support yet this series, the most popular cross platform FPS there is still makes us hit each other with the lag stick every time we log on-dragging PC gamers back into the dark ages last time out was, imho, unforgivable when they hiked the price as well.

For another sake of an argument, used games don't contribute to the wallets of the developers and publishers. /another sake of argument
  • TURbo - June 8, 2010 7:51 p.m.

When the Hitman Trilogy came out on PC it was 3 games for $29.99. It wasn't $60 for each.
  • Fiirestorm21 - June 8, 2010 8:02 p.m.

Used games may be the same games as new games (really?!?!) but I still don't like buying them because I'm not giving the people who made it their fair share. Shocking logic, I know.
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - June 8, 2010 8:19 p.m.

Yes, true, used games don't contribute to the developers or publishers. Make your donation if you really want/can afford it, but I wouldn't pay $60 for a five-year-old game, a four-year-old game, and a recent game. I'd be much more willing to pay $60 for CoD4, WaW, and CoD 3 (if I didn't already have them).
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - June 8, 2010 8:30 p.m.

(And as I mentioned, you can get MW and WaW new for less than this bundle.)
  • StrayGator - June 8, 2010 9:18 p.m.

@AndyGiff93 COD1+2 used a modified Quake 3 engine, and were also available on last-gen consoles. I wouldn't consider it a representation of X360 launchtime graphics even though it was available on the platform.

I love that Gamesradar writers mingle with their readers in the comments sometimes
  • Crabhand - June 8, 2010 9:47 p.m.

Seems like a standard Activision cash grab to me, nothing to see here.
  • Felixthecat - June 8, 2010 10:03 p.m.

    Viva la Activision!
  • CountFenring - June 8, 2010 10:50 p.m.

CoD 2 is still my favorite, if they revamped the graphics, I'd consider it if this was $0, but instead, I'll just go play my old scratched copy.
  • superstud - June 8, 2010 11:40 p.m.

Ha ha Activision are doing the world a favour - just like with the map packs they are merely taking money away from very very stupid people. This is so these same people do not spend that same money on anything that may help them find a member of the opposite sex to mate and have very very stupid offspring with. Q.E. fuckin' D. you map pack morons. Future generations will thank Activision :)

Fiirestorm21-I'm a musician(among my many other slight, and underwhelming talents)and I don'tagree with you about used game sales. If I'm on a CD and someone buys it new that's just fine and dandy but if I want people to keep it shouldn't I expect to have to make something they want to live with forever? If I donb't achieve that how can I complain about them selling it on cheaply to someone else who may find they like my work and, as a result, end up buying my full back catalogue? Same with games-if they want to stop a lot of used sales make the games good enough to stand the test of time and with a franchise like COD coming out every year as basically the same bloody game in different uniforms how do they expect to do that? Sure, I like to support those developers who's work I enjoy but why should the rules about used sales be any different to any other industry just because it's gaming? No one else but the games industry cries about second hand sales-from music to the car industry it's true. Also, it makes me laugh when the games industry cries about piracy! Tell me about it when the whole world thinks downloading your stuff for nothing is OK! IMO the games industry has grown a senseof over entitlement because gamers are such a soft bunch of consumers who, by and large, will buy new when we can afford it(and, sure,it would be great to be able to all do that all the time but we can't in any other field so why do devs and publishers think they're so special?)and a large portion of us are prepared to accept a lot more rough treatment from our hobby's biggest companies than you'd find elsewhere. Christ, fanboys do half the marketing for these people! Whatever, I wouldn't say buying used means someone doesn't want to asupoort their favourite devs and in a lot of cases used sale can act as an ad(that, btw, they ALREADY got paid for once at full whack)lures in new customers for their next game(as, in fairness, piracy can in both music and the gaming industry to some extent)or whatever. Logic doesn't dictate anything here, not imo.
