Brink releasing one week earlier than anticipated

Bethesda announced today that it's moving the release date of Brink, its fascinating new sci-fi shooter, up by one week. The game will now be available on May 10 in North America, and May 13 in Europe. Games are delayed all the time, but an early release? Madness!

"Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn't see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready," said Pete Hines, Bethesda's VP of PR and marketing. "It's apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier - we're going to."

Above: The latest trailer for Brink

If you like shooters, but have grown apathetic toward the genre's glut of samey franchises, keep an eye on Brink. Or two eyes, even, if you have both. Based on our experiences with it, Brink doesn't just look different, it plays unlike any other shooter, and it'll be interesting to see how players respond to its blending of multiplayer and single-player, and its fairly-unique objective system. Read more about it in our latest preview.

I saw this game and forgot about it. Super hyped about it being released earlier than 6 months later like some games. And yeah I too wish CoD servers would crash. All my buddies play that and miss all the great games.I geuss I need new multiplayer friends.

@Nithishvictor haha your "on" the "Brink" of insanity? can't wait four weeks to go, now just need to buy an xbox...

@md1292 : double jeopardy ? or do I even make a "brink" of sense... I guess I am in the "brink" of going insane... Ok, that's enough...

I just want to note that there was a Brink advertisement for a Brink trailer.

@NathanXplosion I hope so too, but you and I should both know that it will fizzle. With all the tasteless gamers in the world that only want CoD styled shooters, it's hard for any FPS to do well on the market. I wish Anonymous would crash the CoD servers instead of messing with Sony.

Well, wasn't that nice of them. /oldgranny But seriously, I can't wait for this to come out.
  • NathanXplosion - April 11, 2011 10:29 p.m.

Awesome, I have been hype for this game since the teaser trailer. I hope it gets a strong following online and doesn't fizzle out after two weeks.

then obsidian needs to burn? my faith is restored, bring on the game with collecters edition maybe? guess i was on the 'brink' of losing it
  • Gameguy94 - April 11, 2011 10:09 p.m.

Well this is rare. If only other games did this!
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - April 11, 2011 10:04 p.m.

@SonyBacker Bethesda may be publishing, but Splash Damage is the dev, and it isn't known for bugginess, as far as I'm aware. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were developed by Bethesda and Obsidian respectively.

@Greyishpoweranger i am only saying that this game better not have same problems as fallout 3 and new vegas, cos these games i love but 2 problems rape me, crashing & locking my ps3 and dropped framerate. this game looks awesome i hope nothing ruins it..
  • greyishpoweranger - April 11, 2011 9:42 p.m.

@sonybacker Dude, its was 5 weeks away from release, It's being made in a factory right now, hell probably on ships going all over the world as i type this. They already had a 2 month long beta in england, but you needed to get copy of the game from Splash damage them self's.
  • SonyBacker - April 11, 2011 9:39 p.m.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Beta test it to hell, if this game ends up with similar problems like fallout 3 and new vegas, this game will be getting sent back to bethesda with rage. you are not pulling the same shit with this just like any other bethesda released games, unless you know that nothing bad can come from this game (gameplay & framerate stability evident) then release the game.

Nice to see it come out sooner than later.
  • JohnDagger - April 11, 2011 8:22 p.m.

  • jackthemenace - April 11, 2011 7:58 p.m.

Colour me excited. Now to scrounge up £40 in time... Am allowed to make self-prostitution jokes on GR?
  • stephenliggio - April 11, 2011 7:43 p.m.

Smart move... they didn't want to release on the same day as LA Noire.
  • spideralex90 - April 11, 2011 7:29 p.m.

I wonder if they are trying to get a good week in before LA Noire releases and hope people can afford two new games two weeks in a row? I'm still saving my money for LA Noire though, it's looking to be one of the best games this year.
  • kingsmikefan - April 11, 2011 7:24 p.m.

Bethesda must have a lot of confidence in this game
  • Risonhighmer - April 11, 2011 7:19 p.m.

They should release Portal 2 today instead of the 19th.
