Borderlands 2 landing September 18, preorder loot revealed

2K Games and Gearbox Software have announced that Borderlands 2 will arrive planetside on September 18 in North America, and September 21 Internationally. Witness the next generation of off-world, multiplayer, cel-shaded shooters in today's launch date trailer.

Split screen co-op? Ninja dudes with laser swords? Claptrap doing the robot? Judging by the media we've see so far (and our latest preview) Gearbox is hitting the wasteland running with its Borderlands sequel.

Also teased in the trailer are Borderlands 2's pre-order items, which can be obtained by slapping down some cash at either GameStop and Amazon.com. Those that do will be treated with a pass to the game's Premiere Club, which includes a Golden Key, used to unlock a rare treat in the Sanctuary Loot Chest; a Vault Hunter's Relic, an item said to boost one's gear-hunting prowess; and the Gearbox Gunpack, a package containing one-of-a-kind Gearbox Golden Guns.

Are you excited for the sequel? Can you handle the “wub wub”? Let us know what you think of Gearbox's Borderlands follow-up in the comments.

If this game is half as good as I think it will be, I'll probably play it for hundreds of hours. I've played the first one off and on since I bought the GOTY edition in late 2010. I've put in a ridiculous number of hours and I'm still hunting for my first pearlescent. If any of you are still playing(without modded items) my PSN ID is on my profile.

I'm still playing the first one since I picked it up later on and still trying to find my first pearlescent. If any of you are still playing(without modded equipment) on the PS3 my PSN ID is on my profile.

Whoa! They decided to use more crayons than just the brown ones to color the sequel. And what's that? MORE THAN ONE ENVIRONMENT? I am utterly flabbergasted

So no goodies available on preorder for anyone "internationally".

That's funny, I just saw a trailer for Armored Core 5 recently that used this very same song. Used it a bit better too methinks. But then, that's not the point... The point is HELL YEAH BORDERLANDS 2!! This is one of the reasons why there's half a gaming PC sitting in my room, so I can play stuff like this. Sept 18, or the weekend afterwards, is going to be a very unproductive day for me. Also, I spy a Scooter in that trailer.

Too many in-jokes and self-references. Sure it got me pumped like #%&*, but I'm not sure it'd capture my attention if I haven't played the original. also, Come on, Gearbox, you should've called the soldier-guy-class-character NOLAN (optionally: N.O.L.A.N.). No one else could pull it but you. Also pt. deux: Token plot twist #47 - 33% into the campaign, Zero is revealed to be a she. or a robot.

OH S**T!! I've been passively excited for this since it was announced, but I'll be damned if there's a more hype-inducing trailer. This trailer is just proof that they're making sure this game winds my GOTY this year.

Makes me want to play the original again. Good thing I still have it installed.

Same, although I've got mine on console. As much as I love the first two ideas, the Golden Key and the Vault Hunter's Relic, The guns kinda annoy me. I mean, if you can use them as skins, that's brilliant, problem solved, but I'd hate to have a pre-order bonus that'll either A) become obsolete by 1/3 of the way through the game, or B) make every other gun in the game obsolete, meaning there's no point in actually LOOKING for any other loot :P That said, though, I am remaining hopeful. After, one of the main things that's supposed to be included in the sequel is the ability to mod guns, so why shouldn't that extend to skins as well? :D Either way, I'll definitely be pre-ordering, even if these aren't the pre-order bonuses in the UK, or there aren't any at all.

Skins would be cool. Maybe you can sell the guns for a butt load of money. I agree, I don't care much for OP gear. It's all a scam really. GS pays for pre-order bonuses that actively shorten the time it takes you to finish your game (either through OP weapons/armor or items that give you faster XP gain) so that you will trade your game in faster, so GS can turn around and sell it for $3 off the new price and pocket all that money themselves. They are the biggest pirates in the software industry. Of course, at the end of the day, if you don't like the pre-order bonuses, you don't have to use them. I just wish Gearbox would give things like that to the fans who bought the first game. They could check your HDD for a BL 1 save file and give you the key or relic as a thank you for buying the first game. I loved that Dead Space 2 knew I played the first game and gave me a retro plasma cutter, or when Uncharted 2 saw I played the first game and gave me some extra money to unlock bonus weapons and characters. Honestly I'll probably just end up getting it on Steam, especially if they offer a 4 pack like they usually do. You can buy it with 3 other friends and each save $10-$15.

I still need to beat the original. I was playing it a lot, was doing pretty well, when I just stopped. I got distracted by another game and still haven't gotten back even though Borderlands is so awesome. :P
