Angry Birds Star Wars to debut Monday

Quiver in fear, consumers. The merchandising might of Star Wars and Angry Birds are uniting with a huge line of toys, clothes, action figures and anything else which might bear the image of the Red Bird as Luke Skywalker just in time for the holiday season, according to Fast Company.

(There's going to be a video game, too. No details have been given, but iOS, Android, and every other platform from there is a safe bet considering the Angry Birds franchise.)

More details on the collision of licensing juggernauts will emerge on Monday morning, when Lucasfilm plans to reveal its product line at the New York's Times Square Toys R Us. “We’re hoping to have some of the hottest toys for the holidays,” said Derryl DePriest, vice president of global brand management for toy-manufacturer Hasbro.

For starters? A Jenga set shaped like the Death Star, complete with birds to fling at it and knock over. Follow the Angry Birds Tumblr for more information, or just watch Red Bird's lightsaber ignite and extinguish and contemplate what a long, strange trip it's been.

I can't believe that Angry Birds is still around after they've milked it so much. It won't be around forever. Most of the fanbase aren't really gamers, they're just people who pick up and play the latest fad, then get bored of it quickly.

I think this cross-over was pretty inevitable. And since there was never any way to avoid it, why not embrace it? I wouldn't mind flinging Jedi Birds at a big, plastic Death Star. Or at the head of Lucasarts.

Okay. It's time. All out coup on George Lucas, or whatever CEO signed off on this... and Ep. I-III, and the "improved" IV-VI, and but most of all, lets get the 5th grader responsible Jar Jar.

This is... kind of horrible. Like REALLY horrible.

I'm not sure how to feel. On the one hand, Angry Birds, which is kind of bleh. On the other hand, Star Wars, which has been a favorite since I was 4.

Can this "series" please just die already? Seriously, I didn't think it would be possible for a series that WASN'T Call of Duty to out-whore, well, Call of Duty.
  • Scammeleon - October 5, 2012 4:44 p.m.

    Please... please no.

Welp, I'm done with life. Think I'm gonna go out into the woods and just wait for death now. I'd say it's been fun, but I think I've forgotten what that feels like.
