The Wolf Among Us is like Walking Dead... if it starred The Big Bad Wolf

Big, bad, and super cool

Big, bad, and super cool

Even if you haven't read the Fables comic series, you undoubtedly know most of the major players in Telltale's upcoming The Wolf Among Us. It's set in a universe where Snow White, Mr. Frog, and Little Boy Blue are forced out of their worlds and into ours. Now, hiding out in a community called Fabletown, they're under the protection of the the sheriff, Bigby Wolf. You might know him as the Big Bad Wolf. Yeah. That one.

The same bloke who blew down the Little Pigs' house is now trying to keep the peace between hundreds of displaced Fables. The Wolf Among Us casts you as the hero, trying to hunt down the killer of a mysterious girl. Fans of the Walking Dead will find the same style of choice-driven adventure gaming that made Telltale's last our best game of 2012, but Bigby's journey won't have the same tone as Lee's did. Set during the 1980s in New York City, the game has a distinct art style, with neon lights casting neon shadows on neon streets.

It's also super violent, as we found during our demo. Playing as the Big Bad Wolf has a different feel than playing as a scared apocalypse survivor, and the gameplay adapts accordingly in the instances when he needs to flex his big bad muscles. During a fight with the Woodsman (the one who fought him in Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother's cabin) he tossed the drunken brute around the room. Quick-time-events prompted him to dodge attacks, and he was able to choose how to approach beating his former rival senseless. It looked like a blast, and we're really looking forward to jumping into the five-episode series when it launches later this year.
