All their friends with iPhones are tapping away at Super Mario Run, making the little guy vault goombas and jump chasms like a happy fool, and Android owners are just sat there swiping at overwhelming nothingness. I'm afraid I don't have much good news for you folks about a Super Mario Run Android release date, aside from confirmation from Nintendo itself that it will in fact occur... sometime next year.
"In order to develop the game and to make it as special, we had to focus on one platform and we decided to focus on iOS, iPhone, iPad," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Bloomberg News last week. "In the future it is coming to Android, we've made that commitment, and that's something that will happen in 2017".
Nintendo debuted Super Mario Run, its first ever mobile game, at a big Apple event in September. Apple has peppered the App Store with prominent promotions for the game since then, so it's not much of a surprise that it will stay iOS-exclusive for a while. Trying to pin down a more exact release window for the Android version would just be guessing, but hopefully Android players will get to join in before the next big Nintendo thing - Nintendo Switch - arrives in March 2017.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and was formerly a staff writer at GamesRadar.
