Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom gets a poster

Moonrise Kingdom , the latest offbeat adventure from director Wes Anderson, has debuted a new poster featuring its brace of young stars in a setting that looks as though it’s been plucked from the pages of a fairytale.

Despite boasting a star-studded cast containing the likes of Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, the poster has sidelined all its big names in order to focus upon young leads Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

Gilman and Hayward play a pair of youngsters who decide to run away together into the wilderness, as a violent storm prepares to buffet their island home. As the clouds begin to gather, the local community becomes frantic in their attempts to recover them in time…

As we mentioned before, there’s a fairytale aesthetic to the poster, with the two children looking extremely small and vulnerable, surrounded on all sides by a thick, impenetrable forest. And as is often the way with Anderson posters, it's really rather beautiful.

And we've also learned (via Indiewire ), that Moonrise Kingdom will open the 65th Cannes Film Festival on 16 May 2012. Sounds like a perfect, crowd-pleasing opener to us, and its got us all the more excited about hitting the Croisette this summer.

Moonrise Kingdom will open in the UK on 25 May 2012. You can take a look at the new poster in full, below…
