BJ Blazkowicz will return to Castle Wolfenstein in a new two-part prequel adventure titled Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Bethesda and MachineGames have announced. The standalone prequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order will take place in 1946 as Blazkowicz leads a two-part effort to stick a wrench in the well-oiled gears of the Nazi war machine.
The events take place before the disastrous raid on Deathshead's compound depicted at the beginning of Wolfenstein: The New Order, so you already know how well his efforts will work out… but it's all about the journey, not the destination, right?
Part one, titled Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves, sees Blazkowicz breaking into Castle Wolfenstein to determine the whereabouts of Deathshead's HQ. Part two, The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs, leads him to Wulfburg, where he confronts a Nazi archaeologist exhuming mysterious artifacts which threaten to unleash an ancient evil. Both episodes feature new weapons and new enemies to try them out on.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will release on May 5 for $19.99/£14.99. It will be download only acoss PC, PS4, and Xbox One in North America, though Europe will get physical releases for the PC and PS4 versions. Doesn't look like any last-gen versions are planned, despite The New Order hitting PS3 and Xbox 360.
Bethesda plans to reveal more about the game at PAX East over the weekend.
