There's no way around it. There's no being polite and saying maybe it's having a bad day. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is appallingly broken. The below video from Eurogamer (opens in new tab) was captured in only 60 minutes of game time. Physics problems, terrain issues, Tony just having a dance on the spot, it's all here and looks a bit like what it would be like to skate across intermittent quicksand in zero gravity.
Things hadn't been looking promising. Devs Robomodo inexplicably added black outlines (opens in new tab) to the skaters last month and new videos looked ugly at best, but to see a full price game in such a sorry state is more than just disappointing. A day one fix was issued but the below gameplay was recorded post patch on PS4 so it doesn't look like it's helped matters much.
And why has it been released as a buggy mess? It's surfaced that the Tony Hawk's licence was due to expire for Activision at the end of this year which could explain a rushed job to get it out.
Ohh, Tony Hawk's ATVI contract ends this year. Now everything makes more sense. http://t.co/f8AjoCOFhiSeptember 29, 2015
Going by the footage, it looks like it's going to take far more than a single patch to fix so perhaps best to steer clear. Back to Tony Hawk's 2 we go then.
