Tony Scott keen on Top Gun 2

Despite being possibly the most '80s film ever committed to celluloid, talk of a Top Gun sequel continues to buzz around Hollywood, with director Tony Scott revealing he’d be willing to take up the reins for a second outing.

However, Scott isn’t keen to revisit old ground, with a whole new direction at the forefront of his plans.

“I don’t want to do a remake,” he told HitFix. “I don’t want to do a reinvention. I want to do a new movie. I’m not waiting for a script. I’m going to do my homework.”

All of which sounds as though Scott has given the prospect of a sequel some serious thought.

However, anyone expecting another round of barrel rolls and power balladry might be disappointed, as Scott is keen to make this a truly contemporary affair.

“It’s a whole different world now,” he continued. “These computer geeks play war games in a trailer in Fallon, Nevada, and if we ever went to war, or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones. They are unmanned aircraft.”

Unmanned aircraft? Where’s the fun in that? Where’s the potential for homoerotic, airborne one-upmanship? Where’s the romance?

Well, according to Scott, “they operate them, and then they party all night. “ Aah, so there will be partying at least. We were getting worried.

This is all just talk of course, but from the sound of things, Scott will be heavily involved in how the sequel takes shape. Over to you Tom…
