Dr. Doom isn't a hacker anymore in the new Fantastic Four movie

When the first plot details for Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot were revealed, one of the most controversial elements was Toby Kebbell's revelation that his version of Doctor Doom would be a vengeful computer hacker, in a major departure from the source material. However, according to the actor, that is no longer the case…

"There’s no conversation about [the character's origins] in the film," said Kebbell in an interview with SuperHeroHype. "We don’t have time to talk about me – I would love it, but we don’t have real time."

"Yeah, he’s still from the same place," continues the star, "his mother is still a gypsy and done her deals, his father still perished from exposure looking after me. He’s angry. He’s an angry dude. But now he’s in Baxter. He’s bright and he’s trying to make people proud. He found a new father in Dr. Storm, the father of Johnny and adoptive father of Sue."

"I kind of get adopted as well, in a fantastic performance by Reg E. Cathey. And that’s Doom as we see him. He’s a computer technician, a computer scientist. There were rumours he was a hacker or something, but no. Victor Von Doom is who we hope he will be."

Kebbell seems to be glossing over the fact that those "rumours" were attributed to him, but in any case it sounds like the whole hacker plotline has been ditched, which presumably won't disappoint too many people. Directed by Trank and co-starring Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller, Fantastic Four will open in the UK on 6 August 2015 and the US the day after.
