Fox 2000 is developing a sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief called The Sea of Monsters .

The sequel has confirmed Logan Lerman to be starring once again and Thor Freudenthal, the director of Diary of a Wimpy Kid , will be at the helm.

The Sea of Monsters is the second book in Rick Riordan’s fantasy series and involves an attack on the camp where Percy Jackson and the demigods reside.

They must then save the camp by going into The Sea of Monsters , where Percy discovers a secret about his family.

Christopher Columbus, who directed the first film, will move to a producing role and Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will be adapting the screenplay.

The franchise could go somewhere, but the first film misfired, so it’s up to a sequel to really prove that Percy Jackson has legs.

Sea of Monsters could be out as early as 2012.
