Oscar Isaac will play Apocalypse in next X-Men movie

X-Men: Apocalypse has found the man to play its title role, and excitingly, it’s a name that hadn’t even been linked to the part in the form of Oscar Isaac.

Variety is reporting that Isaac has agreed a deal with Fox to take on the role of Apocalypse, the world’s oldest mutant and one of the most formidable villains in the X-Men universe.

It had previously been thought that Tom Hardy was the favourite for the role, before rumours over the weekend had Idris Elba down as the latest frontrunner.

However, Variety claims that Isaac has long been the studio’s first choice, with director Bryan Singer only looking at backup choices from a similar mould.

Isaac will line up alongside returning stars James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult, with Hugh Jackman also set to add another X-Men appearance to his CV, and Channing Tatum expected to debut as Gambit.

Directed by Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse will open in the UK on 19 May 2016, before arriving in the US on the 27th of that month.
