First look at Daniel Day-Lewis's Abraham Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis is not a man to skimp on preparation for a big role. Famous for refusing to leave his wheelchair on the set of My Left Foot , and for living in a hovel for the duration of The Crucible , it should come as no surprise to learn that Day-Lewis is already cultivating the appropriate appearance to play Abraham Lincoln ahead of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming biopic.

Sporting Lincoln’s sleek hairstyle and neatly trimmed beard, it has been reported that Day-Lewis is fully immersed in his method, having already been using the character’s accent since way back in March!

Spielberg’s Lincoln has been in the pipeline for some years now, but production is expected to begin on the film at the beginning of 2012. Just the year’s preparation for its star to get into character then…

Jared Harris will star opposite Day-Lewis as Ulysses S. Grant, while the supporting cast will include the likes of Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader and John Hawkes.

You can take a look at the image in full below. We must admit, we’re a little disappointed to see Day-Lewis sporting modern-day clothes this close to the start of production, but you can’t have everything…
