Total Film is feeling all nostalgic and, yes, a little emotional with the news that a Before Sunrise / Sunset sequel could be coming next year, according to Ethan Hawke himself.

In an interview with AlloCiné , the actor mentioned that the sequel that many of us had been hoping for could happen next year (thanks to Thompson on Hollywood for the translation).

Speaking for himself, co-star/co-writer Julie Delpy and director Richard Linklater, Hawke said, “All of three of us have been having similar feelings that we're ready to revisit those characters.

“There's nine years between the first two movies and, if we made the film next summer, it would be nine years again so we really started thinking that would be a good thing to do. We're going to try to write it this year."

Before Sunrise
saw a pair of travellers, American Jesse and French Celine, meet and fall in love during a day and night spent in Vienna. Sunset caught up with the pair nine years later in Paris.

Both films are notable for their smart, natural dialogue, and the all-too-tangible chemistry between the leads. Sunset bubbled with youthful passion, and Sunrise was loaded with years’ worth of added resonance, so when part three comes out ( Before Midday ? Before The Solar Eclipse ?), it could well destroy us.

Ethan Hawke will next be seen in the Total Recall remake, which opens on 22 August 2012.
