Dedicated servers on PC, current and next-gen Call of Duty Ghosts

The PC, current and next-gen versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts will all benefit from dedicated servers, Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin has revealed. Until now, dedicated servers had only been confirmed for the Xbox One and PC editions of the game.

While Rubin didn’t single out the specific platforms that will support dedicated servers, he said much work has been done to improve players’ online experience. "In order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible.

“There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance. Again these are just some of the things that are going into Call of Duty: Ghosts to give players a great online experience. Can’t wait to see you all online.”

Rubin went on to say that Infinity Ward hopes to be able to add server browser and the ability to rent ranked servers post-launch, in addition to mod tools for PC, although at this stage he couldn’t promise that these features would come to fruition.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is set for release on November 5 on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. The game will also be a launch title on Xbox One and PS4 later in November. For more on the game, check out this Call of Duty Ghosts campaign trailer and read up on all the juicy multiplayer details.
