In video gaming it's not very common to see artistic games surging to the top of the sales charts. Journey was one of the proud few who managed to break through the glass ceiling for artsy games, and now it looks like The Binding of Isaac is the latest.
"Who would have thought a game about an abused child fighting off his mother with his tears could ever sell 700k copies in less than a year," wrote the game's creator, Edmund McMillen, in an email to the press last night.
McMillen also added that the game's DLC "Wrath of the Lamb" which launched in May is also selling strongly, and helped boost the title past the 700K figure. When we last heard sales figures for the Binding of Isaac, it was in late January when the game had only sold 450,000. The new figure suggests BoI has some staying power and is continuing to sell.
In closing the email, McMillen (who is also the creator of Super Meat Boy) added the small note, ""700k is a big number... maybe its time to bring this thing to console ;)" Perhaps alluding to rumors that he had been in talks with Sony about bringing BoI to PlayStation 3/Vita in the wake of being rejected from the 3DS.
