Earlier this week, Zoe Saldana seemingly revealed the title of Avengers 4 would be Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet, but that doesn’t appear to be the case after all - at least according to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn.
Gunn told Yahoo UK that Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet is “not the title,” and indicated that the comment from his Guardians actress was simply an accident. “My guess is that Zoe just misspoke,” he said. “I’ll talk to Zoe today, but I would imagine that is just Zoe misspeaking and saying ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ instead of ‘Infinity War’.”
The next Avengers movie is filming now and is indeed titled Avengers: Infinity War, but Marvel’s fourth major superhero team-up sequel is still without a title and is being unofficially referred to as Avengers 4. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says the sequel is still untitled because it’s a spoiler for what happens in Infinity War, so many were speculating that Infinity Gauntlet was a plausible potential choice for a title because it would indicate that the supervillain Thanos had finally acquired all of the Infinity Stones spread throughout the galaxy. That’s going to mean major trouble for our heroes, because Thanos is one of the only beings who can wield all of that power; it’s enough to wipe out billions of lives in the blink of an eye, and I’m guessing some of the good guys won’t make it out alive.
