The 25 worst Stephen King movies

A Good Marriage (2014)

The Movie: Darcy (Joan Allen) discovers her husband of 25 years isnt quite the man she thought he was actually, hes a brutal serial killer.

What It Got Wrong: Ugh, the script. King adapted the screenplay himself, and that mightve been the issue its too enthralled with its own dialogue, which comes off stilted and dull.

Mercy (2014)

The Movie: A young boy is terrified by the spectre of his elderly grandmother, who may or may not be a witch.

What It Got Wrong: Based on the short story Gramma, the problem here is an unusual one for a King adaptation theres not enough story to fill the time. Giving the story a happier ending wasnt a good idea, either.

Graveyard Shift (1990)

The Movie: A truckload of employees working the night shift at a reopened textile mill all die inexplicably. John Hall (David Andrews) is drafted to clean-up the mills rat-infested basement

What It Got Wrong: The films enigmatic posters featured a one-eyed skull - wearing a hard hat - staring right at us. As posters go, thats pretty cool. The VHS cover featured a drowning man being attacked by rats. As VHS covers go, that's even cooler.

Sadly, neither of those things appear in Graveyard Shift itself, which appears to be more about the day-to-day running of a textile mill than the monster movie it's meant to be. Tragically dull.

The Mangler (1995)

The Movie: Detective John Hunton (Ted Levine) investigates when it seems a laundry folding machine has acquired a taste for human flesh.

What It Got Right: This is another one of those where the idea on the page is scarier than the image on the screen. The idea of being stalked by a piece of industrial machinery is creepy, but in practice? Ridiculous.

Trucks (1997)

The Movie: Another adaptation of the same short story that inspired Maximum Overdrive, this story of sentient vehicles is somehow less silly and less enjoyable at the same time.

What It Got Wrong: The acting, the direction, the pacing, the stunts

Children Of The Corn (2009)

The Movie: A couple stray into an isolated town whose suspiciously young inhabitants worship a mysterious figure known as He Who Walks Behind The Rows

What It Got Wrong: Thereve been nine movies based on Kings original Children Of The Corn short story, but this one might be the worst of the lot. In its defence, its very faithful to the story, but its all been done before, and better. The child actors are horribly unconvincing, which kills all the fear, and its just too long. Yes, even at 92 minutes.
