China Miéville, Adrian Tchaikovsky and Mark Charan Newton join Peter F Hamilton and Paul Cornell at February's live sci-fi and fantasy event
Visitors to next February's fantastic SFX Weekender event in Prestatyn can look forward to an outstanding line-up of literary talent. Today we're proud to announce that three of Tor 's finest will be taking part in panels and book signings there.
Adrian Tchaikovsky is a man of many interests, having studied zoology and psychology and practised law; he is also a keen live role-player and amateur actor and has been trained in stage-fighting. Our kind of guy! After 15 years of trying to get published, his fantasy novel Empire In Black And Gold was picked up for publication by Tor - this was the first volume of his excellent Shadows Of The Apt series, the seventh of which, Heirs Of The Blade was recently released. The eighth volume, The Air War , is due for release in 2013. The series has received extensive praise in the pages of SFX . There is more about the series at Tchaikovsky's website .
Mark Charan Newton began his career behind the scenes, working for Black Flame and then Solaris. His first novel, The Reef , was published in 2008. It was followed a year later by Nights Of Villjamur , the first novel in the Legends Of The Red Sun fantasy series. This continued with City Of Ruin in 2010 and The Book Of Transformations in 2011. Newton's work has been praised by newspapers including The Guardian and The Times and fellow authors, including Peter F Hamilton and Mark Chadbourn. Jeff VanderMeer described Newton as a "promising new writer whose prose is dynamic and whose imagination is often startling." Read more about him at markcnewton.com .
They will join fellow Tor authors Peter F Hamilton and Paul Cornell for signings and panels throughout the weekend. The Weekender already boasts a line-up that includes actors, writers and comic creators . It takes place in Prestatyn, North Wales, on Friday 3 February and Saturday 4 February 2012, with our pre-party on Thursday 2 February for the early birds. VIP tickets are already going fast, but there are many other options available. Make sure you get yours by calling 08700 11 00 34, or head to www.sfxweekender.com/tickets for more information.
