The actors behind two of the most beloved Baldur's Gate 3 companions are taking part in an actual-play TV series from Dungeons & Dragons creator Wizards of the Coast.
Astarion actor Neil Newbon and the voice of Karlach, Devora Wilde, are set to take part in the actual-play – a form of live tabletop game playing streamed for viewers to watch – series, aptly dubbed Dungeon Masters, alongside Dispatch star Mayanna Berrin and Christian Navarro from 13 Reasons Why.
It's exciting news, seeing as they'll all be playing D&D for real – but no, the Baldur's Gate 3 icons won't be playing their old characters.
This isn't a game run by Larian Studios, after all, but rather Hasbro's own Wizards of the Coast, and it's an entirely separate thing altogether. Think Critical Role or Dimension 20 – two great examples of "actual-play" series, if you ask me.
We don't have to wait very long to see the Newbon and Wilde's new characters come to life, either, as the first two episodes of Dungeon Masters will be released for free on YouTube on April 22.
According to Variety, Wizards of the Coast says Dungeon Masters is meant "to appeal to a wide audience of D&D veterans, newcomers, and everyone in between." So, whether you're a hardened tabletop game and Baldur's Gate 3 stan or a D&D newbie altogether, you're likely to find something you enjoy in Dungeon Masters.
As a fan of it all myself, I personally can't wait to see what direction the series takes. Episodes will launch weekly and include unreleased – but canon – D&D content, which will then be made available to play in D&D Beyond afterward.
As for the pilot, it'll tie into the upcoming Ravenloft: The Horrors Within campaign, which itself is dropping on June 16: "The first campaign arc unfolds within the world of Ravenloft, plunging viewers into a dark and atmospheric setting filled with mystery, suspense, and gothic horror."
In other words, we adventurers are eating good this spring. Especially those of us who yearn for more Ravenloft-based content, as per Wizards of the Coast's description above of Dungeon Masters.
If you're just as thrilled to watch the new series – and see Newbon and Wilde play new characters – then I'd suggest giving the trailer a watch. I'm personally preparing for plenty of chaos, humor, and dice rolling.

After spending years with her head in various fantastical realms' clouds, Anna studied English Literature and then Medieval History at the University of Edinburgh, going on to specialize in narrative design and video game journalism as a writer. She has written for various publications since her postgraduate studies, including Dexerto, Fanbyte, GameSpot, IGN, PCGamesN, and more. When she's not frantically trying to form words into coherent sentences, she's probably daydreaming about becoming a fairy druid and befriending every animal or she's spending a thousand (more) hours traversing the Underdark in Baldur's Gate 3. If you spot her away from her PC, you'll always find Anna with a fantasy book, a handheld video game console of some sort, and a Tamagotchi or two on hand.
