Sniper Elite 4 shoots into a 2017 release date

If can't wait to return to the war torn adventures  - and X-ray kill cams - of the grizzled Karl Fairburne in Sniper Elite 4 (opens in new tab), you'll just have to be a little patient. Fairburne's WW2 jaunt has stealthed into February next year instead of the planned end of 2016 release date.

“When we revealed Sniper Elite 4 back in March our plan was to release it at the end of 2016,” explains a statement from Rebellion heads Jason and Chris Kingsley. “However, we now know Battlezone will release in October as a launch title alongside PlayStation VR. That gave us a tough decision to make. Ultimately, we’re a relatively small independent studio, and releasing two major titles in the same quarter didn’t seem like a sensible thing to do. A few of our shared internal teams will probably sleep a bit easier now!”

This also makes sense given that there's so many releases arriving around the same time near the end of the year. We've got Titanfall 2 (opens in new tab), Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare (opens in new tab) and Battlefield 1 (opens in new tab) all arriving in a three week period so this seems smart on more than one count. Looks like Sniper Elite is dodging those particular bullets and can make sure it gets all the polish it needs too. We'll see more of Sniper Elite 4's impressive ballistics at E3 this week.
