Sierra unveils The Bourne Conspiracy

Initial details and screenshots have emerged on Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, a PS3 and Xbox 360 third-person espionage-action game from Sierra Entertainment that's due to release in summer 2008.

Sierra explains the title "combines seminal moments from the best-selling novel and hit film The Bourne Identity with all-new content developed in conjunction with Ludlum Entertainment" and gives players "the experience of becoming a 30 million dollar elite agent, fusing an experience that delves deep into Jason Bourne's character with gameplay and game presentation inspired by the aggressive filmmaking and frenetic action found in the films." Phew.

We're promised that The Bourne Conspiracy will feature constant tension and action, "with players adopting Jason Bourne's piercing sense of survival, cunning nature, heightened target awareness and firearms training that allow him to engage and eliminate small armies."

Anyone who has seen The Bourne Identity film will know it features plenty of firefights and hand-to-hand combat and the game will attempt to blend all this seamlessly with Bourne's ability to escape and evade deadly situations, we're told.

Adds Sierra, "Only by playing Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy will players discover Bourne's true identity and experience the very moment he became a malfunctioning weapon, first hunting targets around the world as a deadly government assassin then marking himself as his agency's most wanted."

The Bourne Conspiracy will be present at E3 next month and so will we. In the meantime, check out the first screenshots by hitting the Images tab above.
