We've known Alan Tudyk would be playing a droid in the upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One, but the Star Wars Celebration 2016 stream served as a proper introduction for the character. Meet K2-SO, a reprogrammed Imperial droid with a fondness for speaking his mind and a distaste for being ordered around:
When asked to describe K2, Tudyk said to the audience, "He speaks his mind and says things that could be … unsettling. He's very honest. If you know any old people, it's like that. He says whatever he thinks." He's also described as Diego Luna's character's best friend, though that doesn't mean he puts up with humans' crap. A work-in-progress clip showed Jyn handing K2 his bags, only to have the droid slowly and nonchalantly drop them to the ground.
It's not just personality that sets K2 apart. Tudyk recalled meeting Anthony Daniels - the man who plays C-3PO - at a Star Wars: The Force Awakens party, where the English actor asked him if K-2 was a prosthetic or CG creation. Tudyk informed him K2 was CG, to which Daniels responded:
"You shit."
