Comic book movies are quickly becoming as convoluted as their source material. According to Logan star Hugh Jackman, his final outing as Wolverine takes place in yet another universe/timeline, making it disconnected from previous X-Men films.
"When you see the full movie you'll understand," Jackman recently told Digital Spy. "Not only is it different in terms of timeline and tone, it's a slightly different universe. It's actually a different paradigm and that will become clear."
Jackman went on to say that following and adhering to the rules introduced by the multiple timelines established in previous films became "a chess game," that neither her nor director James Mangold were keen on playing.
It was clear that Logan would be tonally different from previous X-Men films, but taking place in a different universe is a bit surprising. Hopefully this doesn't keep Logan from feeling like a satisfying conclusion to Wolverine's story. As Deadpool would say, "These timelines are so confusing!"
Directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, and Elizabeth Rodriguez, Logan will be released in cinemas on March 3, 2017.
