"Knight Rider! A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist: Michael Knight — a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law...” Yes, if reading those words, the typically over-hyped narration that started episodes of the classic ‘80s show, didn’t bring the childhood memories racing back to you, then stop reading now. You’re either a person with a dark, cold heart who can never love or you’re too young to remember the show.
Still, if you’re the latter, you might yet get a kick out of news that finally, after years of driving through development hell and countless mooted versions, the movie adaptation of Knight Rider might finally see the screen.
Fans of David Hasselhoff’s legendary perm can start revving up their engines of excitement again as the Weinstein Company has nabbed the rights to the show from creator Glen A Larson. Yes, the story of a cop who is gunned down on the job only to be nursed back to health with a new face and a new partner – an armoured, talking, artificially-intelligent car – is now on the Weinsteins’ slate.
There’s no word on any talent attached, though they’ve surely got to consider the Hoff for at least a cameo. And William Daniels needs to be included as the voice of KITT the car. Pray it doesn’t turn into a mess like Dukes Of Hazzard...
