Watch War for the Planet of the Apes' first trailer and 6 gifs of amazing ape action

War for the Planet of the Apes finally has its first official trailer. You might have already guessed this from the title of the movie and the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (not to mention that New York Comic-Con teaser), but ape-human relations aren't doing so well. Woody Harrelson's Colonel and his militarized forces ride into battle to destroy Caesar's nascent society, lest Earth truly become a planet of… well, you know.

Spoiler alert: unless we're retconning Charlton "Stinkin' Paws" Heston out of the lore, here, Earth still will be the Planet of the Apes (you maniacs). But it might not get there under the moderating influence of Caesar, who wants peace and prosperity for his group rather than revenge on the humans who exploited and hunted them. Little do the encroaching military folks know how rotten of a move that would be for the future of both species.

But enough about politics. Let's zoom in on that ape action.
