Horizon Forbidden West gameplay trailer shows off new armor and machines

Horizon Forbidden West dropped a new trailer at The Game Awards, showing its overhauled stealth and combat in action against a variety of mechanical beasts.

Aloy's fit is also one of the stars of this trailer. Our favorite huntress dawns a number of different getups, from classic hunter gear and warrior armor complete with face paint to a spiffy red outfit and some thicker clothing suited to arctic environments.

An even greater variety of machines is shown, including a bunch of dinosaur types: mammoths, monkeys, pterodactyls, fiery raptors, some ankylosaurus, a huge turtle, and what can only be a robot version of the Loch Ness monster. Oh, and let's not forget the giant snake, which is doing its best impression of Monster Hunter's Dalamadur.

As developer Guerrilla Games explained in a recent in-depth breakdown, Horizon Forbidden West has worked to improve the abilities of machines as well as their variety. Guerrilla says machines now move more nimbly and realistically, and command a wider variety of attacks which come from all angles.

Fortunately, Aloy's got some new tricks of her own, and we're not just talking about all those gadgets. Horizon Forbidden West will revamp and expand the skill trees from the original game, offering a greater variety of more defined play styles, Guerrilla says. A more fine-tuned crafting system supports all this customization, meaning those many outfits can be truly custom-fit.

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PS5 and PS4 on February 18, 2022.

Here's a Horizon fit we didn't expect: Aloy in Fall Guys.

They've yet to realize that his position as a staff writer is just a cover up for his career-spanning Destiny column, and he's kept the ruse going with a focus on news and the occasional feature.
