You can choose whatever you want for your Hogwarts Legacy house sorting and wand, or link a Harry Potter fan club or Pottermore account to carry over choices that have already been made. While the decision is initially made for you, once it's done you can just change it or import previous choices you've made previously elsewhere.
To get any preexisting choices you've made you need to link accounts with the game. That's a relatively simple process involving going to Potter sites like Wizarding World and Warner Bros to join them up with the game to carry over any houses or wands you've previously had.
You're not locked into anything either way though in Hogwarts Legacy, so you can always choose whatever you want when the time comes. Let's take a look at how the Hogwarts Legacy house sorting and choice work.
How to choose your Hogwarts Legacy house
I've you've already done any quizzes to pick a house or wand (or want to do that now) then you can follow these steps to link an account to Hogwarts Legacy and import your information:

Once that's done you'll still reach the actual Hogwarts Legacy sorting ceremony about an hour or so into the game, but with your accounts linked you'll get your existing choice. Or you can pick whatever you want once you've answered the questions that would overwise inform a choice.
As for getting your wand, you won't be able to do that until 2 or 3 of hours into the game when you get the mission to 'Meet Natty near the entrance to Hogwarts' (you'll be using a borrowed one until this point). That will transition into a journey to Hogsmeade where you pick up school supplies, including your wand.
Again, you can just pick whatever you want - you're not stuck with what the game gives you. You'll already have learned a few Hogwarts Legacy Spells at this point with a borrowed wand but this is where you finally get your own.
Like a lot of things in game it's all tied to your story progress. So if you want your Hogwarts Legacy broomsticks or access to the Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement you will have to complete the main missions to get them.
So you can go with whatever you want here - take what the game gives you and play into the sorting fantasy, carry over any precious Harry Potter results you've had in the past, or just pick exactly what you want.
