GamesRadar+ Approved - Sponsored Offer Walmart
There's still time to grab discounted DualSense controllers with shipping before Christmas
... and Walmart's ever so slightly cheaper than PS Direct
Struggling to find the best PlayStation gifts so close to the big day? Why not go classic? Nobody's going to turn their nose up at an extra controller, and the official Sony DualSense is still available for its best price of the year.
You'll find the PS5 gamepad available for $54 at Walmart right now, that's $20.99 down from the $74.99 MSRP and 99 cents cheaper than Sony's own store this week. Not only that but, at the time of writing (and location dependent), you should be able to have it in your hands well ahead of the big day. Prices jump up a little if you're after a special edition (though they're still discounted), but for now, the white, Starlight Blue, Midnight Black, Gray Camo, and Galactic Purple versions of one of the best PS5 controllers are the cheapest on offer.
Sony DualSense Controller | $74.99 $54 at Walmart
Save $20.99 - Official PS5 DualSense controllers are still on sale for their best prices of the year ahead of the holidays, and Walmart is going 99 cents cheaper than PS Direct itself. The cheapest gamepads are the standard ones, but you'll also find a range of special editions included here. This is an offer sold and shipped by the retailer itself, with shipping available before the big day at the time of writing.
Sony upped the price of its DualSense controller this year. Before September, these gamepads would have only cost $69.99 at full MSRP. It's impressive, then, that we're still able to hit this record-low price, especially seeing as this is actually a discount left over from Black Friday last month.
Is the DualSense a good PS5 gift?
There's a big difference between buying as a gamer and buying for one. If you don't know what kinds of games your recipients likes (or already owns), you're going to be looking to console accessories to fill out your gift list this year. In my opinion, a new gamepad is one of the best $50 options out there (though if you've got a bigger budget, the Victrix Pro BFG is our ultimate go-to).
Yes, every PS5 comes with a controller in the box, but that gamepad doesn't exactly come stacked with battery life. I know I've appreciated every single additional gamepad I've bought for my own system; it's incredibly handy to have another ready to go whenever that charge runs out.
Not only that, but it's been five years since the PS5 first launched. If your recipient has had their console that long, they, like me, will have put their launch controller through some serious abuse. It wasn't until I picked up a fresh gamepad straight out of the box that I realized how soft my existing buttons had become.
If, however, you already know what games your recipient enjoys and they already have a couple of gamepads lying around, your cash may be better put towards some merch. This can be a cheaper route as well, with some stocking stuffers coming in under $15. We're busy rounding up all the best Astro Bot gifts, but there are plenty of accessories tailored around PlayStation's biggest franchises.
