The Arc Raiders Hurricane map condition adds gale-force winds that can batter your shield with debris and make moving around outside a little tricker. The dim lighting, howling winds, and generally bad weather means visibility is poor too, and not even the ARC are deterred by an active Hurricane. Here's a rundown of all the potential risks and rewards you might face when embarking on an Arc Raiders run with Hurricane winds active!
Hurricanes in Arc Raiders explained
Hurricanes are a type of temporary map condition added as part of the Arc Raiders Shrouded Sky update. Like other map modifiers in Arc Raiders, Hurricanes activate every so often on certain maps - including Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, and Spaceport - for one hour, applying the following effects during that time:
- Caches of loot. The main draw of the Hurricane condition is increased loot value, so you have a better chance of getting the good stuff and finding Raider caches.
- Strong Winds that affect movement. When walking into the wind, players will move more slowly and suffer impacts to their stamina. When walking with the wind at their back, however, players will move faster than normal. This is crucial to bear in mind when jumping too as the wind has an even greater effect on your mid-air movement
- Debris and shrapnel. The strong winds also throw about debris which damages your shield. Thankfully it doesn't affect your health but make sure you bring plenty of shield rechargers or just stay inside as much as possible - the fizzing and sparking caused by your shield taking damage also makes you easier to spot!
- Reduced visibility. Fog, loud winds, and clouds that blot out the sun mean Hurricane maps negatively affect your senses. Arc robots and fellow raiders will be slightly harder to hear and spot in the dim conditions, but that also means stealthy approaches can be very effective. Of course, a sparking shield can easily negate that advantage.
- Items and certain attacks are affected. Smoke and gas will be cleared or moved by strong winds, and thrown items (like grenades) can have their trajectories impacted by the gales.
- Higher-threat Arc: Greater rewards also mean greater risks as the Arc robots are more numerous and dangerous during Hurricanes.
