The Witcher 3's best ending is the one where "everybody lives happily ever after," says Geralt actor – and he got it in his only-ever playthrough: "I didn't know the choices that would lead me there"

Doug Cockle, the talented voice actor behind protagonist Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3 and its predecessors, has a favorite ending in the third RPG – somewhat, anyway.

Speaking in a new interview with Goated Synro on YouTube, the actor reveals as much, first explaining that even though he didn't know every Witcher 3 ending – there are like 36, after all – he did know what he wanted to see happen in the game's finale.

"I knew the ending that I wanted, and I didn't know all the endings. I didn't know what exactly CD Projekt Red had in store for us, depending on the choices we make," he admits.

"But, I knew that one of the possibilities was that Geralt would end up with Triss and that Ciri would be a Witcher, and everybody lives happily ever after – and that is the one I got." Cockle states he "couldn't remember all the choices" he needed to make to get that ending, but "was working towards it" regardless.

"I didn't know the choices that would lead me there. I just made the choices that I thought would be helpful in getting me towards that ending."

He concludes, in awe of the sheer number of endings in The Witcher 3, but solid on what he wanted to happen: "There's something like 20 different endings possible or something like that? Insane. I knew I didn't want Ciri to become the empress, and I certainly didn't want her to die."

It's certainly interesting to hear what the actor hoped to see, and also what he ended up experiencing. As he later says, he never actually got to replay the RPG, either.

So, the ending he got is the ending for him. While I'm personally a Yennefer truther myself, I'm sure the Triss stans will be thrilled to hear Cockle agrees with them on who Geralt should end up with.

It does all make me curious, though – with Ciri as the brand-new Witcher in The Witcher 4, how will the next part of the saga wrap up? Only time will tell, I suppose, but I can't wait to continue from where The Witcher 3 canonically left off.
