Fallout veterans' next RPG Clockwork Revolution is coming in 2027 as Xbox dabbles with console exclusives again
inXile Entertainment's time-bending game finally has a release date
Veteran Fallout developers are prepping to release their next RPG Clockwork Revolution sometime in 2027 only on PC and Xbox Series X|S because Microsoft is dabbling with console exclusives again, apparently.
Clockwork Revolution is the next game from inXile Entertainment, the studio headed by Brain Fargo, the founder of original Fallout and Wasteland developer Interplay Entertainment - and we got a good look at its steampunk-y world and time-bending chaos during the Xbox Games Showcase.
The trailer shows a heist gone wrong, a sassy mechanical puppet, and how messing with time can lead to both fun combat results and unexpected changes in the world
Game director Chad Moore went more into the nitty gritty of the game's RPG mechanics. "You are Morgan Vanette and your look, your skills, and your choices can shape you throughout the game — who you're seeing in the trailer is just one version, not the version. At the start of Clockwork Revolution, you'll customize who Morgan is, and through your decisions during the game, who Morgan becomes," he writes in a new Xbox Wire post.
Along for the ride is a flying friendly automaton called Prentice, and Moore teases that she's an essential part of why your character ends up with the device that lets you jump across the timescape. "She's got her own abilities and her own skill tree, and she'll give you new ways to see and interact with the world."
The studio previously called Clockwork Revolution about ten times more ambitious than anything the developer has made before, and that doesn't surprise me any time I try to wrap my head around all those time-y rewind-y possibilities.
Xbox CCO Matt Booty also appeared on stage shortly after Clockwork Revolution's time slot to announce that it's another console exclusive, joining Gears of War: E-Day. Under its previous leadership, the firm began porting a lot of its portfolio to rival consoles, though the upcoming game is seemingly part of the company's return to exclusives.
