The original Hollow Knight's Switch 2 Edition has just been rated by certifications board PEGI, and fans are crossing their fingers for a shadowdrop ahead of today's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
PEGI's new rating isn't necessarily anything to write home about - it warns of bug-like creatures that might be scary for younger children, especially when a bunch of smaller bugs fly out of a bigger bug's belly upon death. But developer Team Cherry had already announced a dedicated port alongside Silksong's first expansion, writing that it was "hard at work on an updated version."
What is notable, though, is that PEGI attached a release date of February 5, 2026, next to Hollow Knight's Switch 2 version. That's today, AKA the day of the next Nintendo Direct dedicated almost entirely to third-party and partner games. Needless to say, the listing has convinced some fans that they could be getting the beloved Metroidvania's new version in mere hours.
"Well, that's 1 game for the showcase today," a fan writes over on Reddit. "No way PEGI spoiled it. I don't remember that happening with most other shadow drops," another says. A third puts it pretty succinctly: "Hot dayum I'm in."
Team Cherry said the new edition, which is free for all existing owners, comes with higher framerates, better resolutions, and "many additional graphical effects." Silksong boasted some impressive Joy-Con rumblings that I'm hoping get backported here, too.
The Nintendo Partner Direct airs later today at 6am PT | 9am ET | 2pm GMT and will run for "roughly 30 minutes."
Here are the best games like Hollow Knight to play after Silksong.
