After the first trailer for mysterious new sci-fi movie The End of Oak Street dropped yesterday, some fans are convinced that the film could actually be a secret Cloverfield sequel.
"I would put money on this being a secret Cloverfield film," said one account on Twitter. The post has over 18,000 likes.
Tell-tale clues, cited by fans, could be the involvement of producer JJ Abrams, who also produced the Cloverfield movies, and the apparent time travel or alternate universe in the movie as a suburban family finds themselves face to face with dinosaurs. This isn't the first time this has happened – some fans were convinced the 2018 action horror Overlord was also connected to the franchise prior to its release, for similar reasons.
"I love the constant Secret Cloverfield Film rumors and I will forever indulge them because I too, would love if it was," said someone else.
"Your brain is so large and beautiful for this," someone else replied.
"I would love for it to be another Cloverfield film but I doubt it because they announced they the next Cloverfield movie would be a direct sequel to the first one," another pointed out.
"You slap the Bad Robot logo on something mysterious and it just gets the millennials going," said another user. Ouch.

Per the official synopsis for The End of Oak Street: "After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings."
Ewan McGregor, Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, and Maisy Stella play the Platt family, while It Follows director Robert David Mitchell is in the director's chair.
There hasn't been a Cloverfield movie since 2018's The Cloverfield Paradox, which saw a group of astronauts who accidentally travel to an alternate universe after testing a particle accelerator. Doing this also inadvertently opens up alternate universes Earth, which set the apocalyptic event of the first movie in motion. The movie proved unpopular, and only holds a score of 22% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The End of Oak Street arrives in theaters on August 14. For more on what to watch, check out our guide to the rest of this year's biggest movie release dates.
